No argument from me. Sasse is all talk, no action.

Embarrassed the whole state. Guess the field is clear to appoint Casey now that it's clear she isn't going to be governor

God forbid we could have some balance and encourage a diversity of opinions on a college campus. Anything other than hard left isn’t acceptable for some of you and that needs to change.

Wait, was it the "hard left" that disqualified him for having once held an opinion that they didn't like (even after he switched to their opinion)? I don't think "diversity of opinions" is really your goal if you are supporting this. So how about actually saying what you really want, which is your opinion enforced on everybody, not a diversity of opinions.

So I’ve read the threads but I’m not knee-deep in the process as some of you seem to be. This is an honest question: was Ono rejected because he’s too liberal or thought to be too conservative “now.”

I saw the “MAGA” politician comments but didn’t quite understand those either. Again, I’m only tuning into this process in the 11th hour so just trying to make sense of things.

"We refuse to hire a very qualified candidate because he once held views that we dislike, even though he has disavowed them and now agrees with us."
    "That's terrible."
"How dare you! We just want a diversity opinions on campus!"

    They're just inveterate liars.

Liberal. Years ago he made a comment about DEI 2.0 that got a conservative blogger going. That got Trump Jr, Rick Scott among others tweeting about how he was a bad choice. He also closed the DEI office at UM eventually, but the sound bite was out there and no one cared. Once Trump Jr. in particular tweeted it was probably over. No one wanted that fight.

He was rejected because he believes in facts and science, which the ruling party in this country does NOT believe in.

Okay, the whole story is basically this: Santa Ono is a University administrator with a lot of experience. Former President of University of Cincinnati, UBC in Canada, and University of Michigan (as well as an Academic Medical Doctor). He generally had pretty standard academic positions on DEI at Michigan, especially early on, although he walked them back quite a bit even before applying to UF. He had a big fight with the grad student union there and, after that, tried hard to crack down on protests, including the Gaza protests.

He interviews with UF and completely rejects his earlier support for university DEI initiatives. However, he is still a University President with background and experience. The BOT agrees to hire him.

Then, a bunch of the far right, anti-university people like Chris Rufo get their hands on the fact that, despite his current position, he once supported DEI and they go nuclear. This eventually ends up with Don Jr. disparaging him. And now, despite agreeing with them, he had to sit through a hearing about how woke he is, how he loves DEI, how he loves trans people (simply because University of Michigan provides treatment to trans people) and he got voted down.

So, now the University, which hasn't had a President all year, is forced to go back to the search (as he was the only stated finalist), where they will probably pop up with some highly unqualified Republican Politician (like last time).

You mean the best universities in the world that produce exponentially more IP and fuels our economy?
R u really that dense or just trolling?
Do you know what a unicorn company is?
    Startup that exceeds $1B.
Do you know what % of unicorn companies are founded or cofounded by foreigners? Would it matter if the great majority of such companies will now start up in Europe as the best instructors, researchers, and students leave? This is long term damage to our core and you are either too ignorant or too arrogant to care. Kind of disgusted to even try and understand that mindset

It is truly amazing that Dr. Jojo Lapdog is considered qualified for Surgeon General, but Dr. Santa Ono is somehow deemed unfit to lead UF.
Down is up and up is down.

And they aren't stopping at chasing away the foreign students who come to America and contribute so much to our economy. They're destroying research capacity, halting life-changing and saving research, and eliminating the next generation of scientists, doctors, historians, etc. for no reason beyond spite and grievance. Dismantling American exceptionalism because they're throwing a temper tantrum. It is so deeply offensive to anybody who actually loves this country and understands its greatness. The Make America Shitty movement.

Absolutely not. Everyone should hear differing opinions. Liberals are the ones who don’t tolerate any opinions different from their own. I am all for a diversity of opinions.

Up is down. Down is up. Dogs are cats. And FSU is the top university in Florida.
