Um, Uncle Nunzio? Is this him? I am just a jokester poster here. Nothing to worry about from me. Honest!!!
Not sure what this would have to do with their Prez, but coming from U Michigan might be in question right now... So, no UF President???? What a cluster ----, totally embarrassing for the state and university. Cant imagine any top level academic type considering UF or any state school at this point. The university president and several dean positions now open.
So tired of the political stuff. Sasse thought Trump was a moron and he got through. How bout we go with the most qualified instead of worrying about their politics?
Did the UF Board of Trustees give anyone other than Santa a legitimate shot at the presidency? Please correct me if I am mistaken but everything I read indicates he was the only candidate considered. Appears to me that the Trustees tried to force his nomination through by contractually linking salary to compliance with state anti-DEI policies. Whether you are for or against DEI, that should have been a strong indicator that Ono was a poor choice!
The real embarrassment is UF's Board of Trustee's choosing someone without vetting that choice with the Board of Governors behind the scenes. This should have never gotten to this point of being something other than a rubber-stamp process at the Board of Governor's level.
Choice was vetted. Guy was undeniably qualified. Just got hammered by politicians trying to make hay. Unfortunately, this will damage all future hiring and retention. The trustees are enraged and embarrassed and alums like me who donate to academia can’t support a headless university or one that yields full autonomy to politicians (of any stripe). But, no, this was vetted and then the rug was pulled from under the Trustees (and Ono) for headlines and political gain.
So the academic trustees and the political BOG don't communicate??? Ono has been announced as the guy for awhile. It wasn't until certain politicians got involved that the choice went south. Can't wait to see who the BOG finds acceptable. Of course given their speed of action and a diminishing pool of candidates it will probably take another year. Hope I'm wrong but recent history says otherwise.
I always love posts that blame nameless politicians. Would you identify these evil-doers? I never said (or thought) Ono wasn't qualified, but apparently, despite claims to the contrary, whatever University Board or committee chose this individual did NOT make sure that the candidate was acceptable to the Board of Governors first.
