The uptight board of governors has rejected Dr Ono because of his DEI positions. This is ridiculous! Grow up you stupid a—holes!!!

He is trying to figure out how he can get his wife appointed and the salary quadrupled.

No, I'm not mad at you. Just continually amazed by your close-mindedness and knee-jerk insulting of posters you don't agree with.
I asked previously, DID YOU EVEN ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA?
Waiting for you to hit dislike without answering the question.

This is such a pathetic, unprofessional circus. Who publicly offers a million dollar plus job to a candidate who leaves a premier institution, only to pull the rug?

No serious candidate will take a job in Florida unless they fit the mold of Florida’s current politicians, and even then, who knows what games the politicians may play? The board of governors unanimously approved him and they are strong republicans. This is deeply embarrassing to those folks and will cost UF tens to hundreds of millions in donations. Today I talked to folks who are considering pulling tens of millions they planned to leave in estate giving! You simply cannot run any institution in this fashion, no matter your political beliefs.

I assume Lamb voted for Ono. Is that right? I've always wondered why that dude has chosen to be front and center in these culture wars, given his background.

I did not insult anyone, you insulted me simply because I posted the link to news about The University of Florida's president search. You took that out on me. I've been a fan of Gator football since my first Pop Warner coach told me he was a linebacker for the Gators. He coached linebacker, DB and Safeties. I played DB for him.

All one has to do is take one look at who has been hired at other Florida universities and who is in charge of the federal agencies to know that these people are as committed to "merit" as they are "fiscal responsibility" and "free speech."

How did I insult you? I have not called you any names, only responded to YOUR remarks that many here consider inflammatory.
So you're a fan of Gator football. That's great. The next UF president would be in charge of the athletics program, so you should be wanting an administrator with big-time athletics experience. Dr. Ono had that at Michigan -- their athletic budget is much larger than Florida's.

You sound like you knew more about this guy than most people here. We're you hoping he'd get the job? Do you think we need change in coaching? If so which coach would you replace?

First you have to clean house at the UAA (Athletic Association), where well-connected old hats still influence the departments. Could use a better Athletic Director, but that's just my two-cents.

I’d just like to mention a silver lining for me which is how basically everyone here hates this.

I really expected at least a few to parrot the “merit based” messaging and at least one to echo something as far out as the unhinged Staube quote “history of preferential treatment for far-left causes, coupled with his cold indifference to student safety…”

Then again I do have some blocked so maybe they’re the ones proud about the progress to make every state position at every level held by a deep red conservative, regardless of qualifications.

anyways, this sucks. Guess we can move on to educators from Turning Point, Prager U, or just anyone who buys $1M in trumpcoin.

UF also has no dean to lead: engineering, liberal arts, agriculture, medicine and law. While the board of governors technically does not approve these positions, do you think these positions will be filled with an interim president in place or when any selection is at risk of being politically attacked? Will the board of trustees go through another long, tedious hiring process after being publicly embarrassed?

I hope the board of governors comes to its senses and quickly reverses itself because this is catastrophic mismanagement.

This is an embarrassment and travesty. Dr. Ono ended UMich's DEI programs, but because he is in favor of free speech on campus he's a "leftist." Rick Scott, Byron Donalds, and Greg Steube are disgusting for politicizing a process where objectively the most serious, meritorious candidate in UF's history- who also happens to have improved UMich's athletic department- gets screwed over, likely in favor of some embarrassing MAGA lunatic.

I don't think this is over. It's ugly, but by no means over.
UF isn't New College or FAU, we have at least 500k alumni, and MANY influential and wealthy backers. I guarantee there will be repercussions in Florida's political scene for this.

One would hope. But I'm not sure where we go from here. Absent the BOG reversing course, I don't see how you put this genie back in the bottle.

If Ono has any dignity he's telling UF to piss off even if they find the votes. He's bent the knee as it is.

Floridas university Board of Trustees or Governors are all hand picked by the Governor and his ambitious spouse. Led by a central Florida developer all their picks lack academic administrative experience or degrees but all will bow , kneel snd kiss the ring of the wannabee President and Governor. I was not in love with Ono because of his relationship with Michigan alumnus Steven Ross, but he was qualified Hope we don’t end up with Fine

I don't see Ono having that sort of dignity. The man has bent over backwards to demonstrate that he's a yes man for these people. If they reverse course, he'll play the game, I bet. But I don't see how they reverse course.

I really feel for Rahul Patel who headed the search committee. He and Santa Ono are being treated like fools. Kent Fuchs said Ono was perfect for UF. I guess Desantis will have to replace the members of the Board of Trustees since they are obviously woke libs that he appointed. I guess we can hire the President of Eastern Kentucky or some other High Prestige school.
