I am SO SICK of hearing "woke" and DEI being thrown around. Here's why: As an alum, and with many friends who are alums and/or staff, not a one of us has ever been exposed to institutional "indoctrination" of the sort I keep hearing about from conservatives and MAGA.
What we DID absorb at UF was mostly a culture of open-mindedness, intellectual curiosity and acceptance / tolerance of people different from ourselves -- all attending UF with a common goal, to pursue higher education and gain greater awareness and knowledge of the world we inhabit as well as train for careers.
If that is "woke", then I guess there's no need for any higher education at all. Just use Google, AI, or your nearest echo chamber to shape your world.

We previously just hired the most political UF president of all time. Literally the dude left politics to take the job and brought his political cronies with him. Now, the same morons that hired an unqualified political hack who failed are dissecting the nuanced positions of a clearly qualified candidate? I hate what we have become.

Santa Ono Should Not Be University of Florida President

This guy is such a whiner. He’s so openly partisan with such an obvious agenda he should have no credibility left.

 

Haven't been on Too Hot for years. I see it's still a bastion of liberal garbage it was 20 years ago. Ono won't last 2 years.

 

Oh so slightly longer than Sasse? That was suuuuch a great pick. God forbid Florida selects an experienced academic president.

 

BOG just denied the motion on Ono - This state is a total shit show. They are tanking their own flagship institution.

 

Ultimately they don’t believe a non-white guy is racist enough to run the university even with a contract that ties his hands.

 

What a disgusting show of politicization. The grilling Dr. Ono received today was totally embarrassing. And so the BOG has just tanked a properly vetted and qualified candidate for President of one of America's largest public universities.

Thanks for nothing. What academic administrator will want to apply to any Florida university or college job opening now?

Rick Scott, Byron Donalds and Greg Steube (aming others) deserve to hear from our alumni, faculty and students immediately.
And Ron DeSantis? You could have made a stand on behalf of U.F. but you caved.
Not a one of these elected puppet-heads deserves another term in office.

 

Actually, look around, it is totally believable. The same people that don't realize that Universities are one of the primary differentiating factor of the American economy compared to just about any other location will destroy that factor out of a sense of bored resentment of people who they think spend their time thinking that they are smarter than them. The fact that UF was able to actually find somebody who was willing to go along with the nonsense is a small miracle.

 

Absolute idiocy from a bunch of stupid partisan hacks. They've guaranteed that no serious candidate will want this job. Who is going to leave their job when the Board of Dipshits might vote them down and leave them with nothing? We can look forward to another inept, unqualified Republican politician. The "meritocracy" is conservative mediocrities getting jobs they don't deserve and aren't qualified for.

 

It isn't just the admins. The lack of admins (as a reminder, UF currently doesn't have a permanent Dean in Medicine, Law, Liberal Arts, or Engineering, and that is just off the top of my head) will lead to an inability to strategically invest or react to the crazy stuff coming out of DC. I know some schools are already losing faculty. I expect that to accelerate fast now.

 

Uf is missing 5 deans. Several top admin are interim too. The university is stuck in the mud and it’s going to get a lot worse now because fuchs isn’t going to stick around and another search will take months.
