I would say this is not so simple. Even if the XY karyotype is correct, this just confirms that they have the male arrangement of chromosomes, but biology is more than chromosomes alone.

Similarly, if this boxer was born with a vagina, as their parents attest, I would see them as more biologically female, as physiology and development are more biologically relevant than genes alone.

Now whether such a person would have athletic advantages and should be barred from competing as a female is a political question, but what is their biological sex is not fully determined by a chromosome test IMO.

It seems that biological sex is fully determined by a chromosome test by whichever governing body ordered the test done. They say this person is a male. So until I see something documented otherwise I'll go with this person is a male.

 

If a sports governing body rules that any person with an XY karyotype cannot compete, and Khelif is XY, I of course agree that they cannot compete. Still, the Olympics can set their own rules of eligibility, and no sports body can answer the ultimate question of what is a male or female.

BTW, the distinction of male vs female given by many biologists hinges on the size of the gamete. The variety that produces the larger gamete is defined as the female. Probably not useful here, but still may be interesting to some.
