Texas just knocked out Tennessee 2-0. UT's hitting coach got ejected mid-game for arguing balls & strikes. Glad another year is in the books without a Vol title in softball. Hope it never happens. Now if Texas Tech could just beat Oklahoma tonight, it would be a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Probably old news. Lindsay (Norfleet) Fico, UF Softball 2006, Santa Fe and Mercer took FGC job as the 2nd head coach last week. Great campus and location. Another former Gator doing good.
Texas' defense was outstanding in the 7th. Got to hand it to them. Two excellent plays at third and short to keep Tennessee from getting anything going.
Imo any Mike white team regardless of talent and financial backing will never win the big game. Hate Tennessee all you want but they were probably the best chance to dethrone ok. Now it’s up to canady and the mercenary team.
Yep. Because of the family situation, I thought it likely she would back out of her commitment but she didn't. She might well end up back at Duke but I think other factors are at work here. I'm just not convinced she is the answer in the infield. I don't think she was happy being moved to outfield and she is likely to get passed by next year in the outfield. I think, and just guessing, that she is in the Sam Roe area and needs to find somewhere else she can play.
Interesting. I just saw Layla's goodbye post. She lists herself as 1B/Outfield. So, no third base. I might have been wrong about her feelings on the outfield. She's 5'3". That doesn't work at first base. I still think she was pretty much without a place at UF and needed to move. I tend to doubt she goes back to Duke. Seems as if the family has made a family decision that Layla and JoJo shouldn't be coached by mom. Expand their horizons and eliminate a possible difficult situation. The boy is at Miami.
I hate to say it, because I very strongly dislike Mike White, but Texas have been playing really well in the tournament, I wouldn't count them out (unfortunately!)
Several people here strongly dislike Mike White and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm neither in his corner nor out of it. For sometime I thought he was a gruff and unlikeable soul. But I recently have seen several instances where he laughs and seems to have a sense of humor. His players clearly feel free to pick on him and joke on him behind his back. I think he just was born with a very dour facial impression that doesn't necessarily reflect his true character. I don't know. I failed psyche 101.
Agree. He always carries a "mean" look on his face, but when I've seen him interviewed over the years he really seems like a nice guy. I liked what he did at Oregon and he4's got the same type of high level success going on at Texas. I'm OK with White - I just don't like Texas, although I was glad to see them beat Tennessee and will be pulling for them if they meet Oklahoma in the finals.
I never disliked Mike white and am not sure why many here do. Personally I’m a sucker for the kiwi accent, absolutely love it. All I’m saying is historically, going back to his Oregon days he fields great regular season teams that always seem to fall short of expectations when the lights get bright. Now he’s at Texas with way more money and resources than he ever would have gotten at Oregon but OU has their number. OU has everyone’s number I suppose.
Perhaps today was exit interview day. If we don’t lose anyone else I think we are at 15. We have been successful in the past with 17. How many do you think we go for in portal?
I think he has to get up to at least 18, in case of injuries. We do lose a lot offensively with Otis, Walsh and Falby.
