Nice analysis for the first comment. A post calling out an unsupported accusation justifies repeating the same unsupported insult. Meetings among NCAA and host staff with visiting coaches generally are NOT public in the sense of audio and video recordings or presence of reporters. You imply you have info that I don't have about that meeting, please present it. Without evidence to back up your insult, I'm not ready to buy that. I've seen Sully argue with umpires and other coaches and I don't doubt he could be strident. You and the CC coach have put ugly labels on Sully with no substance, not good.
O'Sullivan acted very inappropriately regarding the confrontation with Coastal Carolina and NCAA officials. Whether they were wrong or right about changing the Gator time change of our Sunday game with East Carolina, O'Sullivan handled it very poorly. He is the Gator figurehead of our baseball program. Act like a professional, not a disgruntled fan coach.
Pretty much the universal take in this thread is that Sully may have been out of line but we lack context. Your argument appears to be everyone is defending him because he is our coach.....which is patently incorrect. Perhaps reading the thread before commenting would be helpful moving forward. It woukd also appear you are not an us
One more poster claims to have more info than I have and once more I'll say that if you don't disclose the info and its source, I don't find your assertion credible. Of course, you may have great info, but why not share it? For example, in an earlier post, I wrote about the game announcers reporting problems with the condition of the field that delayed an earlier game and both negatively affected the play and increased the risk of injury. They showed video that reinforced their comments. That's the info I have and its source. My point was that there was EVIDENCE of past problems with the field condition. I expect Sully to insist that a Regional host comply with NCAA contract provisions and I expect NCAA reps to do the same. CC coach says Sully did that badly. Maybe he was there, maybe he had second hand reports, either way, he had more info and didn't share it. At least two posts here have echoed the CC insult, but like CC, neither share their info.
WARNING: NSFW Language in Tweet Video emerges of heated Kevin O'Sullivan argument with NCAA officials prior to game vs. ECU - On3 Not my concern, so no comment. I do agree w/ Sully on one thing.. What difference does an hour make? Unless told after warmups etc started. No idea on that. Or even if waited until team arrived , then said you have to wait an hour to take field.. Sounds almost like it was lack of notification as the biggest issue... just guessing
Thats the video that's supposed to be "absolutely ashamed" of? Maybe inappropriate but spare me the righteous indignation over a baseball coach dropping F bombs in a heated disagreement. If it was merely over one hour then yeah its a bit much but it seems like there was more to it regarding communication or lack thereof. And until more comes out yes, I would feel the same if a rival coach did the same. Not ideal and id rather our coach be more composed but not worth the soap box condescension. I'll probably takes some criticism for that stance but with all of the unethical behavior by coaches in various sports im not bothered by this kind of outburst nearly as much as so many other things wrong with sports culture.
You will note, that I also said we lacked context, context that we now have more of with the video. But if this was Tennessee and not Florida, this board would not be waiting on context, they'd be using it as yet one more reason why Vitello is a piece of crap. I'm not even mad about that, it's what fans do, but Sully made an ass of himself in public and rightfully got called out for it. Any cries about how the coastal coach should have properly handled is hilarious in its hypocrisy, especially in light of the further context we just got.
Surely, others can hear the conversation more completely than I can, but I can hear a good number of F-bombs, roughly the same number I hear picked up by the typical crowd mic at an SEC TV game. It was a less animated conversation than any umpire coach argument I saw this weekend. Barring further evidence, I hope no Gator coach calls out an opponent like the CC guy. I guess I'd lump it with Charley Pell's tantrum when the officials made the right call on Neal Anderson's goal line fumble at AU.
Got no real problem with Sully's rant, but I prefer the method he has used with Coastal Carolina in the past...poach their best players. Thanks for BT Riopelle.
Once again, you claim that a new item someone else posts proves you right after all. You made your insult without evidence. When new evidence arrives, which falls short of justifying your insult, you have shifted to a more general insult that Gator fans are unfair to Tenn. Since Gators are mean to Vitello, they all must be hypocrites. BTW are you actually the same guy who makes other posts about Gator fans being unfair to Vitello?
Again.....you seem to struggle with grasping the fact that pretty much everyone has viewed the Sully part independently from the coastal coach actions. Two wrongs don't make a right, and he handled things badly regardless of your view on Sully. Its not that hard
What is my insult? That I see nothing wrong with CC's coach calling out Sully publicly for something Sully did publicly? That's not an insult that's a comment on sense. Sure CC's coach could have handled it better. He wouldn't have be in the position to criticize Sully had he not show his own ass in public. BTW, I wouldn't trade Sully for 10 Vitello's, and I understand the vitriol towards him. People hate winners, especially cocky ones.
I'll surrender and accept that you have no clue why others keep responding. You wouldn't be in a position to criticize Sully if people didn;t hate winners, right?
You really have convinced me that I was wrong in my "us" vs. "them" assertion, thank you for correcting me.
I have no insider info or look at the paid side. Could any of this time change affected Coppola's warmup routine? If so Sully had good reason to complain to protect an often injured pitcher. Just saying...
I have to say this ..Actually, they have very good (new) facilities, the same number of national championships we do and the stadium staff is amazing. None of that means the NCAA doesnt suck or that Sully doesn't have a right to be pissed (if he even was) at running regionals, but everything seemed first class from a fan perspective.
