I’m surprised they’re not out there excavating a path for the stream to flow out. It is backing up and flooding untouched structures, and as the water depth grows it will quickly erode a channel causing downstream flooding when it breaches the landslide debris.
Well he likely only believes that because someone convinced him that only da libz believe in climate change.
So you think our climate has always remained the exact same? You think it never changes? Look, I have my doubts about how much we impact it and how much we really know about the climate from (insert crazy number) of years ago. I certainly believe people have learned to cash in on it or use It for political purposes, but to say it isn't changing is just covering your eyes and ears and being political yourself. Also, there is no such thing as a natural disaster without a cause a Tornado has a cause. This has a cause. The ice in your tea can not melt without a change in climate. If it stays 25 degrees. It will never melt. For something to melt, there has to be a change in climate. You can debate the cause, you can't rationally debate the effect.
They abandoned and evacuated the whole town! My guess is it’s not considered safe to work or salvaging a few remaining structures wasn’t priority. This sounds like a remote area so hopefully not much else is vulnerable to more flows downstream. I assume they will have to at least clear a path for the stream so they don’t get some further collapse and debris surge from this “natural” dam. Again, reminds of some of the craziness in Western NC where entire rivers got rerouted, and they actually shifted them back! But I assume very little of that occurred within 2 days.
You certainly have the right to believe whatever you want- not one prognostication and they started around 1970 by the GW alarmists has actually come true - CW is just another name for GW and all of it is phony baloney - again you want to buy it have at it
If you even had an ounce of intellectual curiosity, you could easily learn for your self, that the models have been very accurate with their predictions. Study Confirms Climate Models are Getting Future Warming Projections Right - NASA Science They predicted temperatures would increase, and guess what, they have. Last year was the warmest since records started, a record that won't last long. In fact, if anything, the most dire consequences are coming earlier than predicted. The western states are burning. Old grow forests that have trees centuries old going up in smoke due to the severe drought. Meanwhile, the opposite end of the spectrum is happening as well, as devastating flooding from supercharged storms - not just hurricanes, but plain ol weather fronts - are becoming much more common and wide spread. All predicted by the scientists who have been studying it going back to the 1990s at least. As to @tilly not being sure what causes it, it is pretty freaking obvious when you look at the correlation between CO2 emissions and CO2 concentrations. In fact, CO2 concentrations are considerably higher now that they have been for going back 800,000 years. We are literally "off the charts" and only going higher every year. A more intelligent question would be, why hasn't the earth warmed more if the CO2 is so far out of wack, but that has been answered too. Our oceans have been absorbing much of the "extra" heat. You might think that is great, and we are going to be fine then, but you would be wrong again. The massive storage capacity of the ocean means that once we heat up this world, it is going to stay that way even if we can magically get our GHG's back to a climate neutral level. I used to try and do my share, but lately I've come to the conclusion we are screwed. We have too many greedy "what about me" "conservatives" who could care less what they are leaving to the next generations to do anything meaningful about the problem. In fact those so called conservatives are cheering as Trump and his crew try to trash any and all progress made on the environmental front. Woo hoo! More cancer and poisoned lakes and rivers for everyone!!!
To clarify, I didnt say we didnt cause it. I said I question how much. Once money gets involved we should all question it. It's like the paper straw the thing. Americans arent standing at the beach tossing straws in the ocean in any large numbers. It is virtue signal marketing by coffee shops (for instance). I totally understand that we are polluting and harming the environment and have always been clear about that.
Typical dodge of the question. Simple question. How does ice melt? How does the ice in your tea melt? There has to be a change In climate or it would stay frozen. Again, debate the cause and impact...but debating the existence of climate change is ridiculous.
Pretty good? Low unemployment, high stock market, inflation under control, stable economy, full recovery from a deadly pandemic, marauding superpower on its way to defeat, international law supported and respected, positive international relations, etc. Or do those things not matter anymore?
Like money isn't driving the climate deniers? Those people are directly being funded by the fossil fuel industry. I think it is healthy to be questioning, but the evidence is in, and man's impact is clearly driving the increased CO2 (and other GHGs) as we are well beyond anything we have seen going back a billion years, with the increase really taking off in the last century as humans began using fossil fuels to power industry and everyday comforts. But like I said, it is likely all moot at this point. We are at or near the tipping point and barring some significant technology leap things are only going to be getting worse from here on out since collectively we have no interest in changing our habits or making any sacrifice to try and leave our children a world resembling the one we grew up in.
@enviroGator, of course money is driving both sides. That's sorta my point. It makes it really hard to believe regardless of source.
Man clearly has an effect I. His surrounding environment. We see it in microcosm and microcosm. How much this effect plays a role in the entire warming of the globe I still do not know. Too much money and power now evolved to not think there is an u feeling agenda. The globe has always gone through cooling and warming cycles. If anything I think the vast amounts of deforestation is a bigger issue than that ICE cars or coal focused energy. I also question what we (mankind d) can do about it at this point? Mandate zero emissions moving forward in the US and it’s a fraction of a fraction. Get the entire world on board and it will take hundreds of years to make a dent much less reverse course Be smarter about energy and be working towards cleaner source.. sounds promising and I’m onboard. Thinking we are gonna make a deferrable difference? Questionable.
What is your theory on how deforestation makes the biggest impact? We can only control what we can control so I don’t see that as a reason to do nothing. Besides, China, the leader in global carbon emissions as they’ve been the world’s factory for quite some time, is doing far more than the US to reduce emissions. For instance, in one year alone China installed more solar than the US had installed from all prior years combined. If you take total solar and wind capacity China has double the entire rest of the world combined. They’re also the largest manufacturer of solar and wind equipment enabling other countries to convert.
This is right on. Cons have always said, we will do something when China does something. Well cons, China has stepped up. So now I guess we can expect you to get on board too right? The truly sad thing is, in their hate of all things progressive, they are continuing to push for what is now the more expensive form or energy. Coal is now more expensive than both wind and solar for cost of new power installations.
