Why worry about something you have no control over? Nothing we as fans can do unless we want to all donate $$$$$ to help Coach Walton...
Disappointing end to a very good season. Reagan Walsh & Kendra Falby are 2 of our greatest Gators ever and Korbe Otis was a quality addition for 2 years. Thanks for all the contributions of our seniors. Just work hard, rebuild and come back stronger next year. Coach Walton is a HOF coach and has done wonders in Gainesville.
I've wondered about this ever since I started watching Gator softball. Why do they keep just looking at strikes? And I can only assume it's because they are told to do it.
And yet people complained when Shumaker swung at the first pitch in the 1st inning today and popped out. Some are going to complain no matter what they do. If you watch other teams in other games, plenty of them look at strikes. They get fooled on the pitch. If you're looking fastball and they throw a change, it freezes the batter. Vice versa. I can't imagine being 43 feet away from the pitcher when she's on the rubber and probably 33 feet when she releases the ball and deciding the speed and location and whether or not to swing in about 1/2 a second. Can you?
Was out and didn't watch. Wife told me the score by accident. She felt bad, but just as well given I did watch the baseball team today. . Obviously a disappointing ending given the high expectations for this team, and especially for the seniors who were in OKC last year. Getting run ruled sucks but maybe it will be a motivator for the coaches and returnees. On the positive, not easy to even make OKC. Just ask the Aggies, Noles, Tigers, Tide and especially the Piglets. At least the team finally beat Georgia in a SR and took a series from Okla.
I agree with ocalaman. I appreciate everything coach Walton has done for UF. He took a pedestrian program and made it a national power. The quality of student athlete we get on the softball team is absolutely top notch. They didn't have the season they were hoping for, but they still got to OK City as the #3 overall seed. I hurt for all the girls in that locker room, as they poured every ounce of themselves into the team. I hope we can keep the team together, but we are in weird times with the portal. Thank you to the seniors, it has been a ride watching y'all play and I will miss them all. Brooke Bernard - The glue girl. Kara Hammock & Riley Holtorf - We couldn't have made it to OKC without you. Korbe Otis - the epitome of a student athlete. Reagan Walsh - RBI Queen. And of course Kendra Falby - Center field will never be the same. The press conference pretty much sums it up.
I can see both sides. But I played at a high level and currently coach my daughter that plays at a high level. I get different strategies apply during different games and points in a particular game. I’ve loved watching these girls as much as anyone I promise. But again being behind in counts looking against an elite level pitcher is not a good thing.
Walton has always been a work the count/take your base guy. And that has a place. I do think its time to tweak the philosophy a bit. Times are always changing and as much as I hate to admit it OU has been the best at adapting with the times.
I actually posted it almost a week ago, it seemed pertinent today during our discussion. I'm a moderator on the insiders boards and don't come to the free boards often and wasn't sure who knew there. Considering there are only 5 players in the portal it isn't very old news.
A lot more than 5 players are in the portal and many more than that have already announced their decisions. Berzon entered the portal May 20 and a lot of players have entered since then and even before then. It's OLD news. Where do you get your information? When you open the link and get to the bottom of the list, click on "Load More" and it will give you even more players in the portal. College Softball Transfer Portal
There are plenty of times when they're not "fooled on the pitch." You can tell when a batter is fooled on the pitch. When the batter just stands there as if nonchalantly and the bat or a muscle doesn't move, she's not fooled, she's "taking all the way." Ever heard the expression?
You must be new around here. There is this thing called "sports" and another thing called "Gator Fan". When "Gator Fan" gets involved emotionally with "Gator Sports", funny things manifest. It is plausible when the women's basketball program is stuck in middling...or worse. It is kind of odd - but still in the real world - when the golf teams don't always get to the final rounds of the NC tournaments. But then there are "those programs" and "those fans". You are attempting to address the minor league silly folk talking about a pretty good to great program who for some reason did not win the NC. Wait until you get to address the major leaguers, who worry about whether the final scholarship on a NC winning team is not going to be used to sign a perennial NBA all-star for a one-year hiatus, as if winning one for "us" is akin to winning an Olympic gold metal. I mean, all it will take is to put their lives and finances on hold for a year so that we can obtain a NC trophy. Is that too much to ask from them??? Well, I meant that is what "they" are wanting to say. Me? I just take it all in stride...while I figure out which "40-0" shirt I want to buy. But I am not THAT silly, I am ordering a "39-1" shirt at the same time. Why would I not use my brain???
