They want all of them out NOW! Slow-walking the visa applications just gets rid of future students. These people are apparently fouling the master race and must be eliminated! NOW! Some of them don't even watch Fox News!

Ironic, I think it's common sense that American universities should primarily be educating, gasp, Americans!

Let the other countries educate their own citizens. We do not need to be educating those who are destined to become our enemies. No rational country would ever do that. Let China educate their own. Let the Middle East educate their own.

If Harvard wants to be an international university then let them. But make them close their U.S. campus, move their operations to another country and give up all their federal funding. If they want to go that route, more power to them.

You are smart enough to know that the U.S. is a country of immigrants, aren't you? And you do know that coming to the U.S. for a college education is one common way for people to be introduced to the U.S. and begin the immigration process, don't you?

To me, it seems common sense that American businesses should run their affairs …however they want. When did we become a communism bent on nationalizing private enterprise?

Education is national security. They are not a business.

So is Harvard ready to stop accepting any federal money and no longer accept any type of federal student loan? The minute you accept federal money, you give the government a say in your operation, regardless of what kind of entity you are. Harvard is just too used to having their cake and eating it too.

Unfortunately, he is correct on this. Any time you take federal dollars, it comes with strings attached. And the government has the right to change the terms of the deal at their discretion. A bunch of bankers found that out the hard way in ‘09 and some could not wait to pay back the money to get out of the deal.

Exactly, and if I'm Trump and the U.S. Government, I give Harvard the following conditions to accept international students again:

    1) Harvard must provide a list of new international students to the U.S. government every semester. This must be done at least 3 months prior to the semester starting, so that each international student can be fully vetted for any terrorist ties or anti-U.S. sentiment.
    2) Harvard must agree to not offer admission to any student that they know themselves have ties to any terrorist or anti-U.S. groups.
    3) Harvard must inform all international students each semester that they are guests of the U.S. Due to that, as guests they do not have the same rights as permanent residents and citizens of the U.S., and can be asked to leave at any time for any reason. All international students each semester would be informed they are there to study and learn. They are not allowed to participate in any demonstrations or protests against the U.S. or the Government, in any form (federal, state, local).
    4) Harvard must inform all international students each semester, if they are caught participating in demonstrations or protests against the U.S. or the Government, in any form, they will be deported and will not be able to continue their education at Harvard.
    5) Harvard, as part of point 4 above, would be required to report any international student who participates in a demonstration or protest to the Department of State, to begin the deportation process.
    6) Harvard must inform all international students each semester, besides protesting and demonstrating, if they are caught with anti-U.S. sentiment online (in a way to sidestep officially "protesting") or in any social media, they will also be deported. And remind these international students that, as guests of the U.S., they do not have any constitutional rights, including the first amendment. They are here as our guests, we set the rules.
    7) Harvard must agree not to enroll any international student who is deported the ability to enroll in a Harvard international campus. The international students must understand there are real penalties to breaking the rules set above.

If Harvard meets these conditions, they can then accept international students again and Harvard students would be eligible to use federal student loans.

If Harvard wants to resume receiving Federal Money, they must also meet the following condition:
    1) Any U.S. student that meets or exceeds the qualifications of the international students, must receive priority over the international student. Harvard is there to serve U.S. students first, International students second.
    2) International students would only receive admission after all U.S. students who have the same qualifications are admitted.

These would apply to all U.S. universities, not just Harvard. But these are the conditions I would set to resume federal student loans for these universities and federal funding.

Just Harvard or every other school taking federal dollars? Who is responsible for overseeing all of this for the federal government? How are they suppose to vet every single VISA applicant going to college in the US in three months or less?

I'm okay with these conditions for all schools that accept international students. And I would make the schools pay the U.S. government to perform the vetting, so it's not on the taxpayer dime. Schools don't want to do it, fine, then no international students. But those are the conditions.

The U.S. Department of State would perform all the vetting. And they should already be vetting any international student coming into the U.S. to study.

It is flat out inappropriate for any international student to criticize the United State and/or the U.S. Government in any capacity (Federal, State, Local) while they are benefitting from our educational institutions. Just like it would be inappropriate to criticize the UK government if one of our citizens was studying in the UK.

If the international student can not meet my very realistic and basic rules (essentially sit down, shut up, study and learn, which is what you are supposed to be here for), then they can study in another country. Studying in the U.S. comes with conditions for International Students, and they are not allowed the same rights as a citizen or permanent resident.

And by taking these steps, America will be stronger, smarter and more secure.

Education is one of the chief exports of the U.S. So is entertainment and pop culture. All of those have way more impact on the world than fake plastic trees bought from the rubber man from China.

So you want to increase the size of the Department of State? How should they be doing this vetting and how long should it take for each student?

That's well above my pay grade. There are many paid far more than me to figure that out. But if they want to pay me a few million dollars each year, I'll be more than happy to tackle that challenge. And yes I'm okay with hiring more people for a new department to perform the vetting. National security is one of the few areas that I'm okay with in terms of government spending.

It's not our responsibility to educate the world. You aren't changing countries to a Representative Republic just because their kids study here.

How many international students come from China? Last time I checked, the CCP is still in power. In many ways all we are doing is educating our enemies. How many of those international students from China go back to China and work directly for the CCP against the U.S.?

Just addressing your first condition, it's the State Department that's responsible for granting student visas. The federal government already knows how many international students are attending Harvard and obviously when new applications for student visas are approved. The Trump Administration's condition that Harvard provide the list is nothing more than a meaningless political stunt.

International students who attend Harvard as well other American universities including UF pay full tuition, the US government doesn't pay their tuition. Speaking of China as I pointed out in another post, a groundbreaking startup located in Massachusetts that is developing sold state batteries for automobiles was started by two Chinese students who stayed in the US after earning their PhDs and ultimately became American citizens.
A Decade-Long Search for a Battery That Can End the Gasoline Era
Ms. Huang, her husband, Alex Yu, and their employees at Factorial had been working on a new kind of electric vehicle battery, known as solid state, that could turn the auto industry on its head in a few years — if a daunting number of technical challenges could be overcome.

For Ms. Huang and her company, the battery had the potential to change the way consumers think about electric vehicles, give the United States and Europe a leg up on China, and help save the planet.

The short clip, of a Mercedes sedan at a research lab near Stuttgart, Germany, signaled that the company had installed Factorial’s battery in a car — and that it could actually make the wheels move.

The test was an important step forward in a journey that had begun while Ms. Huang and Mr. Yu were still graduate students at Cornell University. Until then, all their work had been in laboratories. Ms. Huang was excited that their invention was venturing into the world.

Im not so sure about the national security angle. Higher ed is extremely competitive with thousands of competing options. UF has plenty of national and international students, as well. And none of them is required for our citizens.

As for federal dollars, I agree that it makes sense to have them given contingent on public interests. I thought the federal dollars were really tied to us citizens via Pell grants and research output via federal research grants. Is there more that I am missing?

So you are making suggestions that the government do something but you have no idea how they should actually be carried out?

The world has been changed and westernized by US colleges and culture exports. It's an investment in progress. I doubt you are able to follow that.
