I don't know about Ollie's family finances, but I hope he gets the scholly and hope to see him get some minutes this year. Would be fun to see him play keep away with the ball a full foot beyond opponents' reach. And when he gets his first alley oop dunk the O'Dome gonna go CRAY.
someone in the 6'6 to 6'9 range wing that can handle the ball and shoot would be ideal. So yes, a future NBA lottery pick
I'm looking forward to his first minutes more than any player in recent memory. Hope one more S&C offseason gets him a bit more "quickness" and mobility. Zach Edey wasn't/ still isn't exactly quick by any stretch but was great at what he did, someone to emulate
We had those beefeaters push their way all the way to the hoop this past season. Ollie might just be the cure for that. Even if they push him all the way to the hoop he'll be really hard to shoot over.
wonder if he could even pass the paper test - stand on a piece of paper, jump, then see if you can pull it away before he lands. My guess is 24-26 inches at best. If he gets to 30+ inches he'd be unstoppable.
Not going to argue with more knowledgeable fans, but to me, his vertical is about the least thing I care about. What I want is better footwork and practice sliding his feet without fouling. Teach him to stop and raise his hands straight up (I realize it is easier said than done) and he WILL be a force on defense. On offense? Keep the ball high over his head, pivot without fouling and do a baby hook. No one is seriously going to block him.
The EVERYTHING School keeps on winning... Gators slap Georgia around in softball Super Regional, 5-2, headed to the WCWS now.
We already have one in Lee and Fland will be one and done. I'd far rather bring in someone who will be around for two or more years, hone his skills and develop chemistry with other younger players. Preferably a small forward or stretch four.
I would rather it go to a player who can actually contribute down the road. Ollie is a nice story but he won’t play much at all again this year and based on the offense Golden runs (which requires bigs to run the floor), not sure I ever see Ollie fitting in.
None of us has actually seen him play, and yeah, he's a project. But let's not rule him out of the rotation or situational minutes just yet. He might yet have a growth spurt over the summer.
Im sticking with Flores as the guy we should go after - assuming we can't get Henshall. Don't get me wrong I'd love to get BH in the O&B, but I think he's probably looking for a more clearly defined role. I always thought it was Henshall or Fland. If he comes it would have to be as a 6th man/starter minutes role - or Haugh voluntarily is willing to play the role again even after being pronounced as the starter at the 3 by Golden. (Also TT is rumored to be hot on his trail - I do find it funny that we keep crossing paths with the same schools for the same recruits - St. Johns and Texas Tech. Let's you know they want a similar team composition as Golden - also explains why playing Texas Tech was almost like playing our shadow) Flores would be more able to just step in to a clearly defined role immediately (Alexis/Potential/Condon-In-Training for next season) without any shuffling of the team, probably has a much smaller price tag within our budget, and has huge upside. Also I don't think a bunch of people in Spain started talking about Florida offering one of their people in Spain a contract randomly. I definitely think there's at least been communication already and probably the discussion is if he comes this year or next year. Condon's decision may have some impact on that/been what he was waiting for.
