Yeah, this was what I anticipated. ECU and Coastal may be "challenging" and both are local and so the fans will be out, it is just that this team is VERY battle tested and may have gotten to be a host team. It isn't like we got in from our reputation alone. If I had to make a guess, we will be still standing to play for winning the regional at the end, but I won't say we WILL win it, just that we get that far. Unless these teams have some awesome and deep pitching, we will have some decent offense. All I am worried is continued brain fart errors at inopportune times and a bullpen pitcher or two (or three or...) whose stuff is lacking. Otherwise...PLAY BALL! I just wished they were playing closer, like say Greenville instead of Conway. I would try to attend a game, but Conway is a bit too far for me and my schedule demands.
To me that's a wide open regional and I much prefer us being there than in Tallahassee. The 2/3 match-ups are generally competitive, fairly even games so you have to go with your best pitcher so as not do drop into the loser's bracket right off. Liam Peterson has been our Friday night guy all season, so I expect he'll pitch Game 1.
Weather: Conway, SC 10-Day Weather Forecast | Weather Underground Gators go first Friday? That's a bold move. Let's see how it works out for you.
This committee is full of crapola. Vanderbilt the overall #1 seed, really? Texas won the regular season SEC by 2 games and 3 games over the dores. The regular season was disrespected in favor of the SEC tourney. In past years, the regular season counted for more than the tourney. Just curious, would UF had been the #1 seed if the Gators had fought hard and won 5 tourney games over 5 days. The obvious answer is no. That should have been the same for Vandy. Bottom line, the tourney champions took precedence over regular season results, unless you are Georgia Tech, and that cheapens the regular season. I won't change my mind that UF should have been the 16 seed, not USM. However, USM did win the mighty Sun Belt so that is something. JMHO, the Gators have been disrespected, hope that is what Sully is telling the team, so they will be out to show they were as good as any team at the end of the season as evidenced by taking 2 of 3 at #1 and should be #1 seed Texas plus winning 6 consecutive SEC series in the #1 RPI conference to close the season. I said last week that I wouldn't want to be the #1 seed of a regional with UF coming in as the #2 regional seed. UF is going to pull a repeat of 2024 by winning the road regional at Coastal Carolina and the super-regional at Auburn. My crystal ball doesn't go out further than that at this time.
Auburn's record is barely better than ours... same amount of wins... easily the weakest of that top 4
I recall some folks saying once NIL came into play, Vandy's scholarship advantages would be over and they would drop back to mediocrity. Doesn't seem like that has been the case at all., #1 overall seed.
Looking at stats, id say Coastal is a pitching dominated team with a couple of tall right handers and a very good closer. Hitting stats not all that impressive, tho they do have a couple of good base stealers.
It sounds plausible. It is just, what teams did they play to build these stats? Again (and this may have some SEC homerism), this team is VERY battle tested. I am not that concerned with "great" A-ball pitchers, until they prove they are AA-ball worthy. Sue me if I have jinxed the team...
Just giving some stats, but I get it. Of course Coastal does have a baseball NC, so I wouldn't take them lightly. Gotta beat ECU first anyway.
we were very disrespected. Heading into the tournament and two of the major four outlets had us as a host. Then we win one and lose one to the runner-up and lose the ability to host? As you mentioned, we beat number one, number two, and took two out of three from FSU. FSU has a similar record to ours and did not play as tough of a schedule. All we can do now is go out and show the committee they were wrong.
Texas is now 11-7 since they lost Spencer. They're 4-7 in their last 11 games, and that includes a win over Lamar. I don't see falling from #1 to #2 overall seed as a significant sign of disrespect. The committee has a strong habit of rewarding the #1 overall seed to the #1 RPI team. There's been something like one exception over the past 8 or 9 seasons, and that was when it went to the #2 RPI team. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
