So, the Trump administration has decided to not let Harvard admit international students on the pretext that criticism of Israel is Anti-Semitism being suffered by their Israeli students. Those Israeli students will now be thrown out of their chosen university by the federal government. You know, because the federal government is trying to protect them. As will, of course, the vast majority of international students who have literally nothing to do with any of this.

It will never happen but Harvard should consider not enrolling prominent Republicans’ kids and grandkids while they’re prohibited from enrolling foreign students. See how much pressure that puts on the administration by making those supportive of the administration feel the repercussions of their stupidity support.

Another fun aspect of this: these are the people who have spent the last couple of months saying how terrible it is that we have a trade deficit with countries are stopping a very successful business from selling their services for hundreds of thousands of dollars to people from those other countries (supplemented by a likely relatively equivalent amount in living expenses).

Forget so-called anti-Semitism, international students, academic freedom, etc. etc. This is nothing but another Trump vendetta. Harvard did or said something that he doesn't like. As he told the country before the election, "I am your (meaning I am my) retribution." And his followers dig his narcissistic vengeance sprees.

Taking a page from Carville, this is likely a designed distraction from the deficit defying tax bill now projected to take 1 trillion out of Medicaid and Medicare and throwing millions off health insurance. Next outrage: Trump pressures healthcare workers to heal those thrown off healthcare for free.

From what I found on line, full Harvard tuition for a year is right at $80,000 a year. If you are right they have 10k foreign students, that is around a $800M blow to Harvard’s budget each year.

Seems pretty clear why they are doing this, in addition to the other actions this Admin has taken against Harvard.

I’m guessing if you gave Stephen Miller truth serum, he would say they are doing this to attack the growth of university Administrators that these students pay for but do not teach anything that they associate with DEI. Not saying I agree with it but that would be the reason given.

Liberty University received $445M last year. I hope the next democrat abolishes all federal money to any religious school. Bye Georgetown. Sorry Notre Dame.

Gets a say over what? The students are receiving a loan that they have to pay back with interest. I received a loan to buy my house. The company that owns that loan doesn't tell me which bathroom I can use or when I'm allowed to run the dishwasher.

As for federal research grants, the grantee is required to comply with the grant's conditions and offer periodic reports on progress to keep the grant. Otherwise, the government can and will cancel the grant and stop giving them money. So they're getting their say.

You know what they don't get a say in? What universities teach, who they hire (aside from complying with anti-discrimination laws), and the programs they offer. Why? Because of the First Amendment. But I'm a guy who actually gives a shit about free expression, even when I don't like what a person has to say. It's too bad the federal government is now controlled by freedom-hating dumbasses. And I'll hold my tongue on what I think of the ignoramuses who cheer this administration on as it wages war on the United States Constitution.

I've largely stopped posting in here because I don't believe I have the capacity to have a civil conversation with anybody who is happy with what Trump is doing. I have to say that I believe in sticking to one's principles, so as much as I want to see us take the (illegitimate) authority Trump has claimed and use it to absolutely crush every conservative institution that supported him, we shouldn't. But I am all out of patience for these fascists and any person who supports the evil they're doing.

Yep, reaping and sowing. They act like they will be in power forever, and maybe that is their plan. If our system holds up, the pendulum will swing the other way. If it does, the magas will squeal like stuck pigs when the chickens come home to roost.

I respectfully disagree. Churches/Christian charities (for instance) sometimes get federal aid for things like disaster relief. That federal money should not allow the government to tell them how to operate.

Do we want states with a voucher program telling religious schools what to teach?

The financial aid is for the student, often a taxpayer or the child of taxpayers. That student aid doesnt take away a private schools rights to be free of government overreach.

This is what my fellow conservatives don't get. If we play stupid games ...

Politics (on all fronts) is a war with no scruples.
Pissing off the enemy will just make them double down on the grenades that they fire back.

It is shortsighted and selfish. Trump doesnt care about damage 20 years from now.

Reagan is doing flips in his grave at this point.

@g8orbill instead of disagree ratings, please tell me how I am wrong.

    Defend your position.

How will you feel when they go after churches or religious schools? Religious charities?

Or do you just not care as long as you get to keep posting how many months Trump has left?

i suspect that they would be resorting to violence by now if the dems would have tried what this orange clown is doing now.

the house of rep and senators that are cowering to their orange emperor have forsaken their oaths and should be impeached
