I have been trying to tell folks for 2 years how bad antisemitism has gotten, the Dems turning a blind eye or even rationalizing it is a largely underrated factor in their loss to the orange one. And before the inevitable “It was Israeli hate, not anti semitism” argument… tell me the last Russian Diplomat murdered here over Ukraine. The last Chinese official murdered over Tibet/Uighers. Or the last Iraqi official murdered over Kuwait, the last Saudi official murdered over Yemen, the last Iranian official murdered over their support for Hezbollah etc.
It just “happened” to be Jews that were the first. At a time when a third of Jews have personally felt antisemitism in the last year and over half have altered their behavior to stay safe from it. Weird coincidence I guess.

Yes, anti-semitism has been on the rise around the world for decades now. Promoted by right-wing hate groups and nationalist parties who love to hate easily marginalized minority groups like Jews. This has been going on for hundreds of years.

Meanwhile, heaven forbid anyone try to make people understand that Israel is not innocent in this. That they are slaughtering, or promoting the slaughter of poor settlers who actually are innocent. And, if we do, then we are suddenly anti-semites too, which would be real news to my Jewish wife and her family. Who, also oppose the slaughter in Gaza, so I guess that they are also anti-semites.

I have said many times, Israel isn’t at all innocent. I despise Bibi, and no one should be shocked that Palestinians finally rose up. Of course how they rose up doesn’t exactly help their cause (at all), but different discussion.
None of that is the point though, and even this response helps make it. I raise the fact of rising anti semitism and the left continually minimizing or talking past it, and the response is basically “well that’s been happening a long time, it’s the right’s fault and Israelis are bad”.
It’s gotten exponentially worse since the war started and many of the incidents of note have been from the left (both violent and nonviolent), including this one presumably. Here are some more numbers from the article I posted above.

It wasn’t the idiot skinheads angry about Israel’s response to Oct 7. And no I’m not excusing them or the “Jews secretly run the world” Charlottesville type morons. But the left just can’t seem to come to grips with their role in this. It’s a symptom of a larger “out of touch issue” they face on a host of issues and refuse to address.
My last post on it for now, I’ve made my point. Disagree if you like, but then don’t wonder why the Dems couldn’t beat a dangerous narcissistic moron like Trump. Twice.

 

These two deaths are clearly wrong. Prosecute the perp to the fulllest extent of the law.

Irony must now be dead. We have a president whose White House is full of white nationalists who hate Jews, who dines with and shows great respect for neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes, who said that some of the Nazis in Charlotte were "good people", and who is a part of an effort to use the power of the government to force all Americans, especially Jews and even mainstream Christians, to live according to fundamentalist Christian principles. The irony lies in the fact that some of his supporters posit that the left is the main purveyor of antisemitic trash.

And they do this in spite of the clear history in this country that the center of antisemitic hatred resides in the far right wing, as it always has, and as it always will. Sure, there has been a rise in antisemitism in the furthest reaches of the far left, but that is nothing compared to all the white nationalists, Klan sympathizers, Nazis, and generalized right wing haters of anybody not a WASP, all of whom hate Jews, and most of whom support Trump.

And please remember that the fundamentalist Christian support of Jews being in charge in Israel, along with their support of the Jewish led Israeli government, says nothing about whether or not they do or do not have a positive view of Jewish people. That support of the Jewish led Israeli government is based on the fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible that Jews must be in power in Israel for Jesus to return. It says NOTHING about the prevalence of antisemitism in the group. Some fundamentalist Christians who support the Israeli government love Jews, some like them, some are neutral, some are negative toward them, and some outright hate them. They are completely separate issues.

That irony must be dead is also supported by the fact that some right wing supporters of Trump call Democrats communists. They call Democrats communists while the president they lionize kisses up to Putin, AN ACTUAL COMMUNIST KGB MEMBER WHO WAS DEDICATED TO DEFEATING THE USA THROUGHOUT MOST OF HIS CAREER (and it should be obvious that he still is). Trump supports Russia and its communist leader by purposely harming NATO, treating our democracy-practicing former allies as enemies, showing horrible hostility to Ukraine, and generally governing in ways that support Russia. But Democrats are communists....sure...

Yes, irony is dead because supporters of a president who consorts with antisemites daily call Democrats antisemitic and because supporters of a president who supports and favors communist led Russia call Democrats communists!

What is the difference between a right wing terrorist who goes into a synagogue and shoots Jews or a left wing terrorist who shoots Jews outside a museum in the street? Answer: the location. Doesn’t matter to me what their political beliefs are.

 

You are correct that the political philosophy of the shooter does not matter when a Jew is shot. Tell that to the extreme right wing that is trying to use the political philosophy of this particular shooter to brand left of center Americans as having a high likelihood of harboring anti-Semitic views, which is the opposite of the reality: the clear history in this country is that the center of anti-Semitic hatred resides in the far right wing, as it always has, and as it always will.

The purpose of my post was to counter that very false and ironic narrative promulgated by supporters of a president who obviously seems to approve of various haters and hate groups, especially those that hate Jews, which of course is the basis of the irony I referenced.

Lies like that must be exposed. Otherwise, the left will be falsely painted as being highly accepting of antisemitism when the truth is that antisemitism is much more accepted on the right, as are other forms of hate, such as racism.
