Back to basketball: How about "balls to the wall and 40 minutes of hell"? I know it will never happen, but I'd like to see a sampling of it. We actually have more than ten starter-quality guys we could utilize to actually do it. I'd love to see us throw full 5 man rotations at other teams and watch their eyes widen and their tongues hang out!
Ah yes, I believe I caught you with her in a teaching moment... Me? I just try to keep the buckets clean, just in case...
It'd be fun to experiment with but I think unlikely that Todd will go for it. He's analytics-driven, and analytics tell him that 8- to 9-player rotations are the most successful. HOWEVER...I don't know if it would hold up to be true for a team with this much talent, depth, and running ability. It might behoove the staff to try it out in a few games in the preconference schedule, then sit back and compare the numbers against games in which we stick with 8 or 9 players. Plus, we now have a situation, personnel-wise, that is most unusual; we have two true point guards with very good assists-to-turnovers rates and also ability to score and create shots for themselves, combined with at least two bigs that can run the floor like nobody's business (assuming Condon returns). This screams running game, but also means guys get tired quickly (except for Haugh, who has the best endurance of any Gator since Lee Humphrey). It's a long season; plenty of time to experiment. But CTG also clearly plays the long game, knowing how much winning (or losing) against teams of varying quality affects metrics at the end of the season, and how those metrics affect seeding.
It’s also interesting to consider that this team defined itself as a 2nd half team pretty much all season. It’s hard on us fans but worked to near perfection
Speaking of Parenthood, who else was in Gainesville when this was shot? I think it was spring break. I was studying at the MSL, walked out and there was Steve Martin!
Teams that consistently have strong second halves also say to me that the coaches really know what they're doing. They make the adjustments needed. You could see both last year and this that the Gators were never really out of a game.
While much of the "press" about UF was the offense, IMO, the defensive intensity in second half's, especially in the tournament, was special. UF just locked teams down.
I love music so it doesn’t bother me if an off-season basketball thread meanders a bit into musical topics. It also doesn’t bother me if a sports thread meanders into fishing talk like I’ve seen on here way worse than the Boogie thread (and I am no fisherman whatsoever) I just keep my head down and maybe learn something and never admit the only fish I caught in my entire life I hooked in his eyeball! Whoops!
Wow! They would not be my cup of tea but they certainly are creative, dynamic, and energetic to crazy levels! I’m guessing Strange Gator would like this group a lot.
This is a phenomenal band. I agree the majority of music is stale/uninspired/thoughtless. Always has been imo.
Yeah, when his son was shooting off a tower, I said "That's Century Tower!" I am just glad I and plenty of other folks assisted in keeping it structurally sound. I would have hated Steve dying under a rubble of falling brick...
