I respectfully disagree. IMO MAGA will live for quite some time. Their grievance has been empowered. The USA has been irreparably damaged.

 

I'm confused by maga. Are they saying they agreed with Trump when he was against accepting gifts from countries like Qatar and are now saying they are for it now that he is for it?

 

Is it really free if it retrofitting it as Air Force One would require hundreds of millions of the tax dollars from US US taxpayers? By the way if he accepts the plane for personal use after he leaves office it would be a blatant violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution.

Unless it's rendered incapable of flying and put on static display like the 707 that Reagan used as Air Force One and was transferred to the Reagan Library transferring the title of the Qatari plane to Trump's Presidential Library Foundation is nothing more than a stunt to give Trump a personal 747. It also seems that if Trump wants to use the plane as his personal aircraft after he leaves office all of the classified hardware and electronics that would enabled the plane to be used as Air Force One would have to be removed. If the deal does go through it wouldn't surprise me if Congress enacted legislation transferring the plane to the US permanently nullifying the agreement to transfer it to the Trump library following the end of Trump's term keeping mind that the President cannot accept gifts from foreign leaders unless Congress approves.

 

You're dodging the question. Are you okay with spending up to a billion dollars on a plane that will only be used for 2 years max knowing that we're about to purchase another plane?

 

It’s more complex than just adding countermeasure flares, stashing some AR-15s onboard, and letting Trump pick the paint job.

The modifications and systems they install are extensive and cutting edge. That’s a big reason Boeing’s new AF1 has delays and cost overruns—well beyond the price of a standard 747. Now, all those systems have to be reconfigured for this jet. Check out info on AF1 - it’s fascinating.

We should have paid $100 million tricking-out the current AF1 for Trump—add random gold furnishings, a mini-McDonald’s, etc. “Fly in style” - that’s what he’s after.

The United States has accepted a 747 jetliner as a gift from the government of Qatar, and the Air Force has been asked to figure out a way to rapidly upgrade it so it can be put into use as a new Air Force One for President Trump, a Defense Department spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

“The secretary of defense has accepted a Boeing 747 from Qatar in accordance with all federal rules and regulations,” the chief Pentagon spokesman, Sean Parnell, said in a statement. “The Department of Defense will work to ensure proper security measures and functional-mission requirements are considered for an aircraft used to transport the president of the United States.”

So we are taking a plane that will never be used as AF1, spending perhaps a billion on it, so it can then be decommissioned and used as a prop at a future Presidential library? This is what we are going with today?

At this point, Trump can do whatever he wants. He has enough people carrying his water to keep the rest of us off balance and he is the master of making us forget about his last outrageous thing with his next outrageous thing. It is the sunk cost fallacy and there isn't a core value MAGA isn't willing to compromise to let this continue. Just hoping there is something to rebuild after MAGA has willingly compromised all of our institutions and American core values.

Ok? And? It’s called an estimate. So if it comes in at $750m does that change the point in any way? Knowing this is govt we are talking about, likelier than not costs will be higher. Maybe we should ask the Qatari’s if they’ll pay for the upgrades too!

 

I have seen countless statements that Trump wants to use as AF1 because he is embarrassed by the old girl. Too old parked by the rides of other world leaders. I guess these are wrong?

Donated to the library does not mean it is parked there. It is for the use of the library, which as I said earlier, is a grift for donations.

 

If it comes in at $100m does that change the point in any way?

 

Would be awesome to go on-line and check out a book from the library and have it delivered by a 747 rather than the mailman.
