Just a crapshoot comment because I really don't know but I'll throw out because Oklahoma needs pitching and we don't. At least to the extent of Oklahoma. I don't think we would ever turn down a very quality arm but for Berzon I think Oklahoma is a better opportunity. Just as an aside, I skimmed the article and it also mentioned Washington. I doubt that. Washington had a very average year this year and is gone from the tournament. They lost a lot of talent from last year to the portal. I really think being forced to the Big 10 has really hurt that program. Of course, there could be other reasons and deeper problems. Heather giving up the USA softball position could be indicative of that...she needs to somehow get the Washington place in order. So far the Big 10 doesn't appear to have killed Oregon or UCLA but that is not clear it isn't going to be a problem down the road.

Yes, we got the #1 player who is a pitcher for the 2026 class. Her first season with us will be the 2027 season.

This post got a lot of "AGREE" so it must by right but I can't say that I understand. I got involved in UF softball in the Gourley/Barnhill days when pitching basically carried the team (cumulative ERA .081). To me it seems that offense carries the team now, not pitching (cumulative ERA 3.00).

 

The whole sport is offense now pretty much with all the data and technology. Pitchers are scouted so hard and hitters can do so much. But in the 2014 and 2015 and prior offense was the level it is now.
We have 3 pitchers on staff currently that when on and healthy they are very good.

I agree with your last statement; however, I would like to add that you see a big improvement in Liv’s contribution and Leah Stevens shows a lot of promise and will add to the staff. I also like to add that we will probably get a quality arm out of the portal.

Agreed. We really, without taking a big risk on this, could already have five good arms for next year. That's why I said Oklahoma needs a pitcher more than us. I don't think we go portal unless it is one of two things....an elite arm you can't pass on or a "no promises" arm like Kara that might have some potential.
