The police overall showed amazing restraint that day, that one cop who calmly backpedaled and misdirected the MAGA mob likely saved a lot of lives. This cop wasn’t in a position to backpedal. He was clearly tasked with guarding that door. Did he HAVE to use lethal force? Some might suggest he fire a “warning shot”, not unreasonable to see that as preferable outcome. But that is NOT the protocol (and a warning shot may even be illegal for all I know, as it is in a lot of places, inside a busy building during a riot is pretty much the opposite of ideal environment for a “warning shot”). At the end of the day he shot a person acting criminally/attempting to break in through a window which is always going to be justifiable (castle doctrine) and should never to rewarded. I view this like a burglar suing the homeowner for injuring themselves or having a slip and fall during the course of their burglary. It’s quite disgraceful. Esp considering she has no kids, so I guess her mom gets the $$$.

The important thing for MAGA is that someone MAGA likes gets something, and someone else pays for it. Even if that someone is technically the United States. MAGA has shown time and time again that they value Trump and MAGA over the United States - this settlement is just a perfectly clear example of that. It's also important to remember that MAGA are victims. As is Trump. Even when they assault hundreds of police and ransack the Capitol because they believe Trump's lies. They're still victims!
Congressionalel members had been evacuated for 30 minutes when Babbitt was shot for breaking some glass. The cop (Michal Byrd) had a long history of rogue behavior. If the cop had been white and Babbitt was black the cop would be in prison.
