Yes you’re right it was the Dazzler in 2009 - my point was that Meyer was a pretty damn ordinary game day coach without Mullen and Strong running the team.
Good ceo that knew to hire coaches. Also knew to go where the powers that be had no problem with buying his roster and money was superior to the competition. Im sure he knew exactly what what Saban was doing early on and could see his UF bags were going to be an issue going forward. We wouldnt be allowed to chrat on the same level by UF nor the good ol buddy system of the sec.
Well his tenure at OSU proved that he was adaptable enough to succeed without those specific two, but your point is taken. Meyer wasn't so much of a game day coach as he was a master motivator and a relentless recruiter.
Mullen had Percy, Mullen's play calling was very predicatble, remember the plays spin wheel meme, every other play was Tebow run or Percy Percy >>> Mullen rewatched the Netflix Swamp Kings series and Urbie said he called the jump pass to ice the Natty against Oklahoma
Oh yeah I remember. And when at least 3 options involve Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin, how can you go wrong? And without Percy, Meyer/Dazz tried to make holes with speedy scatbacks and got nowhere running the ball
He was a broken man when he left here and OSU was not an option at the time. It wasn’t quite as simple as leaving one for the other.
Agree completely This argument reminds me of the old “Steve Spurrier left UF to go coach in the NFL”. No he didn’t - he left UF to leave UF. Once he had quit, he decided to play the NFL card. But no way no how did SOS leave UF for that shitty Washington organization
My completely unsubstantiated belief is that when he stuck his neck out to protect his players and call out intentionally coached dirty play he looked around to see who had his back and the folks that should have at UF ran and hid. It's one of the most shameful chapters of my alma maters history, imo. Personally, I think that Steve is too classy a guy and loves his alma mater too much to even mention it as a factor.
Yep And he did say enough to convey his feelings during and after his departure. He’d turned down way better NFL offers before - no way he’d suddenly make the jump to the freaking redskins
I know memories are really bad around here- like crediting Percy for beating Bama in the 08 SECCG. Still smh over that one. But the play spinner wheel you mentioned happened in the auburn game when Mullen literally walked out of the hospital to coach. His appendix ruptured, and he should have stayed in the hospital at least another day. Yet he walked out to coach the game. Granted his play calling sucked, but he was hardly 100%. The usual Mullen was one of the best OC's to ever coach here. Probably 2nd to only SOS. All the stats back this up. (Not defending him in the least as a head guy..)
BN turtling is like my neighbors dog barking at every person that walks past their house, it's in their nature.
