Hunger Games for immigrants coming to a TV near you! The show runners swear it’s not though. It’s just a celebration of history and what it means to be a citizen. Can’t wait to watch. o_O

The Department of Homeland Security is considering being part of a television show in which immigrants would compete for potential U.S. citizenship.

Department spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said she had spoken to the producer of the proposed television reality show and that consideration of the idea was ongoing.

The pitch for the proposed citizenship-competition show comes from Rob Worsoff, a producer and writer whose credits include the “Duck Dynasty” reality show. Worsoff, who emigrated from Canada, told The Wall Street Journal that the show is meant to be hopeful and a celebration of what it means to be an American citizen.

Immigrants already in the system would compete in various contests including potentially on American history and science.

A crass, degrading competition for the profit of a few? A little too on the nose WRT American citizenship.

This is disgusting and should be grounds for requesting the resignation of anyone taking it seriously.

BTW, there is already a show about this and it is called 90 day Fiance. It is trash TV but my wife loves it for some reason.

We’ve all seen so many videos of Americans unable to answer what two countries border the US.

She's referring to the Daily Mail, not the WSJ. The WSJ reported that Noem is not personally involved and is not aware of the pitch.

Also, the only reason McLaughlin has to try and clean this up is because she was the one speaking to media confirming that DHS was considering the idea and has had multiple meetings with the producer. The story blew up in a negative way and now they try to distance themselves by blaming the media.

    Right here
Mike is right. We should likely read the WSJ’s story before suggesting they should be banned. Not to mention, if getting criticized by an administration is all it takes to ban a media outlet, we’d all be down to citing Highlights magazine.

Silly goose. I used the right leaning Wall Street journal as the storyline and link to avoid the criticism on bias. But, yet you still are doing it. My OP doesnt mention Noem or Trump at all.

That's quite the apology for your error. If they weren't considering it then why wouldn't their spokesperson say that up front instead of confirming that they met with the producers multiple times?

I feel like you invented a new phrase that contradicts... "Leans to the middle". Good one. Similarly I am neutrally very opinionated and also aggressively passive with the passion of a flaming iceberg.

Mod and right wingers have utterly highjacked my thread. Daily Mail (a right wing rag I would never post here) is not my thread. Mine is on the WSJ article that has been authenticated.

    Nice try.

I wouldn’t put it past the Daily Mail to print Noems involvement as cover to give the administration something to deny. Dirty Dirty.
