Biden diagnosed with prostate cancer

Heard from a Urologist many years ago that they don't operate on 80+ year olds.
The chances of passing from natural causes was just as likely as dying from prostate cancer.
Not sure if that's still the case but Biden seems way too frail to operate on from everything I've seen.

That's still a long wonderful life Oklahoma.
If I make it to and/or through my 80's I'll consider it a minor miracle.

 

The crazy thing is that it's treatable if diagnosed early enough Bill.

Unfortunately, when prostate cancer has 'spread to your bones' that's clearly not early enough.

 

According to this doctor, that could well be the case:
"Some men inherit genes that increase the risk of developing a particularly aggressive type of prostate cancer, often at an early age (younger than 50). These same genes could increase the risk of other cancers, too.

Another possible reason for a higher risk of cancer may be related to lifestyle. For example, men who are obese are more likely to develop a more aggressive form of prostate cancer. And we also know that maintaining a healthy weight, eating a plant-based diet, and exercising regularly may lower the risk of other cancers, like colon cancer (the third most common cancer in men).

There may be a small increased lifetime risk of developing rectal or bladder cancer in men who have been treated with radiation therapy for prostate cancer. However, this is related to the treatment, not the prostate cancer itself."

I know there’s often a point where they don’t check psa anymore. But you would think he’d be getting very thorough physicals.

I have heard that there are two kinds of men: those who have had prostate cancer and those who will.

From the reports Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of the cancer and that it had already metastasized to his bones. My Dad was diagnosed with a less aggressive form of prostate cancer at age 80, he was treated with radiation and passed away from a totally unrelated cause at the age of 88. Two my former co-worker we diagnosed with prostate cancer roughly 20 years ago in one in his early sixties, the other in his late 50s. Both are still alive and are presumably enjoying retirement.

 

Awful news. Wishing the best for him, his family, and his medical team.

 

It's been said that more men die with prostate cancer than from prostate cancer (see my previous post).
