It's a different year man. Miami and Ole Miss are replacing 1st round NFL Draft pick QBs among other players, Vols don't have a QB, Noles stink like a healthy mixture of ass and s--t, and we were better than A&M last year and are better than them this year.

People like to talk about our schedule all the time, but I think some of you guys are just looking at the name. This isn't your typical Kirby Smart Georgia, Canes are worse than last year, Ole Miss is worst than last year and we are a better overall roster than we were last year.

I'll add 2 from the defensive side but full disclosure- I just finished re-watching the Miami game.

    1) NO STUPID PENALTIES. We had 2 idiotic roughing the QB penalties at crucial junctures in that game. One was on 3rd and long and directly led to a cost of 4 points. Why?? Why cream the QB when you can just let up? Frankly guys like this need to be benched. They certainly don't need a #1 jersey.

    2) NO 20 yard cushions on a WR who is 30 yards from the LOS. We made Cam Ward look like a #1 draft pick by strangely giving the WR 20 yards of cushion when he was already 25-30 yards downfield. WHY? To guard against a 60 yard pass play? My goodness- let's play a little tighter guys!!

I know most will see this and say the Miami game was lost by the offense, and the O didn't help, but wow the defense looked so undisciplined and idiotic.

Let's fix that with real discipline and intelligence and not play soft and stupid.

Head ball coach needs to get on the offensive coordinators ass about these things, clearly the spot the issue is arising from.

Wonder why Billy hasn't fired the OC yet, can't get a play in quickly 3 years in, it's almost like our OC is distracted by a second, more important job.

If Lagway is the competitor and superstar talent I think he is and we have no worse than average luck with injuries, we appear to have the horses to win big. And, if Billy is ready to win games on the sidelines instead of frittering them away with timeclock and silly substitution gaffes, we'll be scary as hell for anyone we play. To be clear, I'm really pulling for Napier, he does so many things right. But I want to see him be as well prepared for Miami as their mediocre lump of a coach was for us last season. I need to see him bury UT in the first half instead of keeping them in the game with a feckless, ultimately losing performance in the RZ. And finally, generally speaking, we need to see some consistent killer instinct when we do gain the upper hand - THROUGHOUT THE SEASON. My old Dad might've said, that's a lot of ifs ands and buts, and he would be absolutely right. So, I'm not predicting an outcome yet. But at this point, I would absolutely consider a well-played, well-coached 9-3 to be the predicate to bigger and better things. GG. Beat LSU, destroy Miami.

Youre assuming we are better and they are worse. And you're also assuming that we will win every single game that's in question. There will be surprise teams. There always is.

Billy can’t afford to be the primary reason we lose games we should have won. Even I’ll be calling for a change if we see any of what we saw in the first half of last season. Go Gators

    Theres
so much riding on Lagway. 12 tds and 9 picks. He has to be much, much better to get to 10 wins.

I totally agree on DJ's need for rapid growth if the offense is to become a real juggernaut. But IMO, DJ is more clearly defined by his enormous physical talent and the seismic impact he had on the team in the second half of last season - than by his admittedly meager stats as a true Freshman. Six and one at this point in his career, along with that amazing arm talent are the central facts for me. I also will note that while our back-up QBs are pretty average, they do appear to be at least somewhat experienced and reasonably serviceable in a pinch. It's been a while since we could say that. No, I'm not over the moon by any means, but at least I can see it from here and it's clearly got DJ's face on it. GG! Disassemble Miami! :p

Man, i hope he gets there and is a stud for the next two years. Its a crapshoot though to think it will happen. Theres coaching but theres just god given talent between the ears to make split second decisions with a high degree of making the correct decisions. Im holding my breath

As I said before when I talked with DJ last week we were not aware of how bad the shoulder was all year. When he injured his groin and hammy the already small BN playbook got cut in half and turned him into a pure pocket passer which isnt his real game. It is a bit worrying that those injuries usually continue to linger but he said he is feeling fantastic and will lace em up at 100% with his legs and his shoulder. I think we will see the total package we didnt see last year very quickly so get your bets in early on this team before everyone jumps on board.

I understand being gun shy with our recent history, and particularly BN's part in it as a gameday coach. TBH, I was squarely in the replace BN ASAP camp after the T&AM, scUM, UT and Arky fiascos last year - and I said so in no uncertain terms. But after one of the most exciting turnarounds in the sixty years I've been a Gator fan, I look at DJ's ability to make winning plays in the moment and his otherworldly arm talent and I see reason for very reasonable optimism. IMO, Billy's ability to manage/get the hell out of the way of that talent will tell the tale in the end. But I do agree that it's time for DJ to step up and for Billy to prove himself as the HC at the University of Florida.

I was glad to see this article (I will post at the end), because it makes reasons for and reasons against Florida making the CFP. The huge difference-maker will be playcalling as well as DJ's health (most everyone agrees on DJ's health being the key). What is concerning, BN offenses have not cracked 50th in scoring offense and have not finished higher than 38th in total offense. The other concern is defense. We don't know which defense will show up, yet, and we are thin on defensive backups at tackle and corners. I am hoping DJ stays healthy and has a breakout year! Go Gators!

That phrase struck a chord with me…
I was a physician assistant working with a solo practice specialty surgeon for 28 years before I retired.
He was a the best surgeon I had ever worked with, and every surgery we performed was not finished until everything was perfect.
That’s said, he also expected perfection from every single person around him - and was disappointed every day of his life and always shared that attitude, sometimes making nurses or techs cry.
I always expected something to be less than perfect and was ready in advance with a remedy when it invariably happened (and mended relationships as we needed to interact with these same people every day.)
He was the bad cop I was the good cop – probably why we worked so well together all of those years.
Not sure why I felt the need to share that somewhat long story other than I learned that people are gonna be what they are and there’s no telling someone “you’re going to be disappointed – don’t be so critical”

That's a tough one. Perhaps it often looks like Offense is winning games because Defenses didn't stop that Offense, and often the team with that Offense had a Defense slowing or stopping that other Offense? Confusing, right?

Since we have not yet had a scoring offense ranked higher than the 60s, I certainly hope we find a lot of Defense and all but perfect execution with our STs. What stood out to me from our scoring vs higher ranked teams is they settled for fewer FGs. Our RZ scoring ratio was high, but so was our FG percentage compared to other teams who were above us in scoring. If we are able to convert more TDs vs FGs, scoring offense will be better this season.

Well we are better at QB as Lagway is more experienced. Ditto at RB. A lot of experience on the offensive line as well. WR is an issue in that we don't really have anyone proven outside of Sturdivant and he did it in a different conference. That said I have seen enough college football to know that a great QB masks any perceived deficiencies you have in the WR room.

Defensively our only glaring issues are a legit edge rusher and personally I believe our secondary is no better than average when it comes to talent.

You are going to be pleasantly surprised.

I’m pretty sure he will be. I’m thinking a 3-1 TD/INT ratio by the end of the year. I’m more worried about him staying healthy.

Agreed, It is a different year and different teams. I would point out tho that last years big wins over LSU and ole Miss were home games. Gonna be a lot tougher to beat those teams on the road. Miami is also a road game ( at least cam ward is gone) . Don't see us beating Texas at home, but hopefully we can beat the Vols to offset last year's loss.
Ga game, as it often is, could be the key to a successful season.
