It's being reported Texas may spend 35 to 40 million for recruits this cycle. That dwarfs everybody, even the bucknuts.

Somewhat true but that lsu qb was pretty damn good but it wasnt near enough to beat the rlite teams which had clearly inferior qbs.

Hasn’t Texas had money for a long time and they still didn’t get good until they found the right coach in sarkisian. I agree that you need top shelf players but a good coach steering the ship seems to be imperative.

They weren’t allowed to throw it around like they are now until recently.

Not sure about that. I think Alabama bought a few championships through the years.

They got better instantly when nil let them outspend everyone blatantly . They may have still lost because their coach possibly isnt as good as Day but more lkiely osu just had better players.

But bama may not can afford to outspend anymore with it being legal. The bar has been raised financially

Bama didn’t mind being labeled cheaters and had plenty of bagmen willing to do the dirty work. TX folks didn’t mind spending money, but the big money is a little more holier than thou, not too different from our big money. Just like here, I’m sure there were some willing to get dirty, but it wasn’t systemic like Bama.

I think it’s stupid to give these players the kind of money they are asking for without any binding contract. The only way they can have a contract with a player is by making him an employée of the university.
And of course school pres will not agree with that because it will be against amateurism principle. Doesn't make sense because they are already paying them (wink wink) to play for their school.

Amateurism my ass. They dont want to pay, they want boosters to foot the bill. Wouldnt it be great if i could get my customers paid for by an outside party and i got to spend the entire invoice how i see fit.

I don't see how anyone could consider College Football, at the SEC level as being remotely "amateur" anymore.

The price of admission should tell you you aren't watching amateurs

The short answer is somewhat. I'm sure negative recruiting is going on as it always does and will. Having a new President can go in either direction. The new guy has a fondness for athletic success and, I don't believe will tolerate mediocrity.

USC with an underperforming Lincoln Riley has 26 verbal commits for the 2026 class. Great recruiters can recruit in any condition

Great Recruiters aren’t a thing anymore. We aren’t spending any money. It’s obvious someone is holding NIL money hostage until Billy proves he can win games with D.J.

UF has NIL funds, not to the extent OSU, Texas and a few others have but they can compete. UF could have a lot more verbals right now but are waiting on some bigger names. UF's approach is different in that from what I'm told its about position allocation. However, I do agree that winning will loosen the purse strings a bit. For example, do you think Basketball got a boost after winning the title? Certainly they have and CTG is putting together a team that will compete at the highest levels next year. I could see FB getting the same type of boost from a successful season, they already did with the winning streak at the end of last season. Winning breeds more winning. Gators244 is correct, many will hold back until CBN wins more games.

Players take the one year bag all the time. Money is by far the leading factor in recruiting . That tackle that just went to miami can say it wasnt #1 but hes full of shit.

And how many of those 26......"stick"?

I will acknowledge that it is concerning having all of one (1) commit right now, but UF has a couple of big recruiting weekends coming up.
After last seasons recruiting cycle, I would be comfortable with about a dozen going into late august (about 1/2 a class) and then cherry picking
the final 12 as the season goes along.

Obviously the above just represents #'s and recruiting is far more complex, given the many factors involved, but generally speaking, having 26 commits
like USC has right now, does not blow my mind, it's certainly not a "bad" thing in that it shows players have a keen interest with what USC is
currently offering but, things are so different now in recruiting, I don't find that number to be as impressive, as say, compared to the pre NIL era.
