Might be a good time to revisit this topic… Hegseth didn't request over $137,000 in upgrades to his new military residence, official says
This .... how on earth did the media and democrats think Hegseth requested or "mandated" the repairs ... especially the $49K emergency house painting? I'm sure it was fabricated by the dem "think tank" as an attack on Hegseth. The "tofu-eating wokerati" are truly a sad bunch.
Hah. They aren’t denying the emergency request happened, actually this seems to confirm/acknowledge it. The claim is they were going to do this anyway and some underling ordered it instead of Hegseth personally. This is known as semantics. Obviously chump change either way. As someone noted above it’s likely he can’t take these repairs with him (unlike Carson whose wife probably thought she was buying herself a really sweet $30k dining room table on the taxpayers dime). I mostly found it odd he’s using this government housing at all and I still doubt if some apolitical general wanted to move in there that the bill would be that high. $50k for paint? They must have hired a defense contractor to do painting!
I just had a 2800 sq ft house painted inside and out for $12,000 last year, including resurfacing an outside lanai. $50,000 jumps out as excessive for paint whether you believe the request came from Hegseth or not. Do I think congress should open an investigation into the paint bidding process? I would probably be inclined to call it chump change given overall issues w/military contracting, but it would also be totally unsurprising to see a Sarah Huckabee sanders situation where it turned out to be a “friend” doing the painting rather the normal base maintenance and that’s why it came in so far above the usual $35k limit. That’s how wooden lecterns end up funding European vacations for “friends”. Since the request came in and they are trying to say Hegseth had nothing to do with it, they should probably at least check if all the bills went through a normal process or normally used contractor. If so, so be it.
Well, being he is so unqualified for the position, they probably want to hide the house so it doesn't attract any undue attention from the media who might try to camp outside it one day. So a $10k camo paint job for a tank turns into a $50k job for the house pretty easy, I guess...
So now.. no big deal? Military says the house is very old, needs tons of repairs and was in the docket to be done anyways.. and many many here took the chance to take shots at PH.. for zero reason. Just admit it.
When was she given a position in any government? Just asking. Although it's probably a distinction that goes over the heads of people who like the meme there is a difference between expressing an opinion as has did Greta Thunberg and actually having a direct hand in governmental operations as do Elon's boys.
Agree that this is much ado about little. Hegseth is a POS and there's plenty of other legit reasons to take shots at him. But I do wonder -- how much is he paying to stay there?
Fake news. Musk removed identifying codes after reporters investigated and found the website was mostly inaccurate or wholly made up… why would anyone believe that? Nevermind, I know why…
DOGE Was Never About Saving Money - The Atlantic If you thought Elon Musk was really trying to cut costs, you weren’t in on the joke. The DOGE website now claims $165 billion in savings. However, it still details only a fraction of the supposed cuts, and earlier accounting errors have given way to new ones. A common sleight of hand is canceling a “blanket purchase agreement”—in which the recipient had been given the equivalent of a credit limit to incur necessary costs on a project—and then claiming savings of the full credit limit rather than the (in many cases substantially lower) amount that was actually spent. Even assuming that the website’s stated savings have become twice as accurate as they were in February, annual savings would reach perhaps $15 billion, or 0.2 percent of federal spending. Fortunately, more reliable sources than DOGE’s self-reported figures exist. The best is the Treasury Department’s monthly accounting of spending by agency and program. Any true DOGE spending reductions should show up in these budget totals, as should the results of other White House initiatives, including cuts to public-health spending and the ongoing efforts to eliminate USAID and the Department of Education.
Or how about this waste of the taxpayers money? Trump defends the high price tag for his military parade: 'Peanuts compared to the value' Defense officials told NBC News that the estimated cost could be as high as $45 million, with individual Army units ultimately bearing the cost of the parade — which could potentially impact funds used for training.
I'm assuming you're talking about the New York times since the DOGE website is filled with lies and misrepresentations
