Only in leftist LaLa Land is any of this not an accomplishment: U.S. and China Agree to Suspend Most Tariff Hikes 1. China forced to the negotiating table after failing to align the EU with the CCP against the US. 2. 20% fentanyl tariff remains, and fentanyl is included in the broader trade talks. The flow of illegal fentanyl and the killing of US citizens must stop. 3. Highest levels of both the US and China governments have been tasked with a 90-day goal to hammer out the details of a fair and lasting trade agreement. Either China ponies up or its back to a trade war which the US will eventually win anyway. Just get it done in the next 90 days or less. Yes, it can be done. 4. The trade war is just as much about bringing home business and jobs for Americans. Again, only in leftist LaLa Land where the status quo of screwing America by both sides of the US political spectrum for Wall Street and oligarchs is none of the above an accomplishment. The Trump Administration has illustrated that it will no longer tolerate this unacceptable trade environment. Who here is willing to admit that they expected a trade deal to be completed by the two largest economies in the world in a weekend of significant trade talks? If so, you are living in LaLa Land. For our LaLa Landers, the markets seem to like the progress, not that it is a goal of what is happening between the US and China to please the short-term thinking markets.
Did you notice that there wasn't a single specific in that entire post. What, specifically, do you want from a trade agreement? Higher tariffs? Lower tariffs? More state control of the economy? Less state control of the economy?
Imposing a tariff and stating vague goals is not an “accomplishment”. By that logic we should have stuck with the 145%, as that must have obviously been “accomplishing” 3x more (in reality the only thing it was going to accomplish was empty shelves and economic self- destruction). All we’ve done here is showed none of it was serious, and temporarily created a scenario where China has favorable trade compared to Japan and Korea. The markets obviously like that the looney tunes tariffs levels are off the table for now, but unless we get some actual free trade deals done with Japan/Korea/EU/Nafta to get us to zero (or at least back to where we were) tariffs will continue to be a drag on the economy.
Now just imagine not giving a damn enough to reverse your ‘stupid’ decision. But of course, in this case, your ignorance (TDS) is glaring. We have to act like we didn’t hear President Trump say numerous times that the tariffs were a negotiating tactic. I suppose we could explain away a great many things if we simply ignore everything that happened before them.
You can't really be this obtuse. Reducing tariffs for 90 days, leaving 20% on fentanyl tariffs, and top levels of both government who weren't talking yet now do are specifics aplenty. You clearly are a LaLa Lander.
Did not raising those tariffs force China to the table? Just raise your hand and admit your LaLa Lander status.
Patience grasshopper. That's what you need after years of being patient with no curative action. Short-terms views not allowed in these matters. China has 50-year plans, not month to month plans.

50-year plans are incredibly dumb. Less than 50 years ago, Blade Runner thought that we would have robots that were virtually indistinguishable from humans that we would send to mine objects in space...but pay phones. And the fact that you can't answer what we are at the table for gives away the entire game.
It’s fascinating you think it’s unilaterally China’s hand that was forced. As if the U.S. side had an option either. You understand the reason for this partial capitulation is that we were severely damaging our own economy. Right? Trade wars are funny like that.
China is/was worse off in the trade war. US strength over non-action prevailed, and China is now at the table negotiating seriously.
Negotiating what, specifically? If it is "seriously" negotiating, this shouldn't be a hard question to answer.
Was it necessary to raise tariffs to 145% to bring China to the negotiating table? And what happens if in 90 days, nothing happens? Wouldn't we be in the same place again? In addition, our more trusted partners are now going to see the reduced temporary tariffs on China and ask for the same deal. What happened to tariffs bringing us billions in revenue and being able to replace income tax? In the end, we don't know what long term impact this will have. All the world has seen is Trump bluster and cave quickly, making the US look foolish and unstable. And now, China currently has lower tariffs than many of our more trusted Asian trade partners? Please, how does this equal a win?
Trump used to praise Xi all of the time. Now all of a sudden we need tariffs to talk to them? You will fall for anything
