Massive A2A dogfight. This isn't cooling off

India-Pakistan jets clash in one of the largest dogfights in recent history

The "dog fight" between Pakistani and Indian fighter jets, which Pakistani officials say downed five Indian planes, was one of the "largest and longest in recent aviation history," a senior Pakistani security source told CNN. The Pakistani claim has not been corroborated and could not be immediately verified by Newsweek.
A total of 125 fighter jets engaged in an hour-long aerial battle, with both sides confined to their own airspace as long-range missiles were exchanged at distances surpassing 100 miles, CNN said.

Not to be that guy, but its not a "dog fight" if you are shooting missiles from 100 miles away

Ok. Planes shooting at planes...guess US tech won again if India lost 5 and had no hits on Pakistani planes

Actually, I think he’s right. I’ll do some quick research, but I’m pretty sure most of Pakistan’s Air Force is U.S. tech (F-16s et al) and India uses mostly formerly Soviet equipment, though we are working to change that given how poorly Russian equipment has fared in Ukraine.

Edit: Generally, I was correct, though, India also has a fair number of French fighters (Mirage 2000s and Rafales) and Pakistan has a fair number of Chinese fighters (J-10s).

Depends on who you ask, doesn’t it? Ask a fighter pilot who’s up for ace, and a kill is a kill is a kill, no matter if you saw the whites of his beady little eyes or not.

India was always non-aligned so I assumed they bought stuff from everyone. Russia, Western Europe, the US.

Look the whole premise of the movie top gun was that reliance on long range missiles was degrading close-in dogfighting skills :)
