Vlad in his own words (link in my previous post)
Russian President Vladimir Putin told the nation Monday that the collapse of the Soviet empire “was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century” and had fostered separatist movements inside Russia.

In his annual state of the nation address to parliament and the country’s top political leaders, Putin said the Soviet collapse also was a tragedy for Russians.

“First and foremost it is worth acknowledging that the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,” Putin said. “As for the Russian people, it became a genuine tragedy. Tens of millions of our fellow citizens and countrymen found themselves beyond the fringes of Russian territory.

How many times do Have to debunk this? That's not exactly what Putin said. Obviously WW2 was a bigger tragedy for Russians in that 23 million or so Russians died because of that conflict.

The tragedy that Putin referred to was that 60-75% of the Russian people were thrown into poverty. Oligarchs raped the people essentially. Supply chains ended up in 15 other countries. Roughly 25M Russians were left behind in other countries and often became persecuted minorities.

Putin never used the word "greatest." That was a mistranslation. Putin has no intention of reconstituting the USSR as many geopolitical analysts have tried to explain. That includes Stephen F. Cohen (RIP) and John Mearsheimer.

Anonymous hackers breach airline tied to ICE deportations and leak flight records

Hackers targeted one of the airlines the Trump administration is using as part of its deportation efforts, stealing flight records and passenger manifests of all of its flights, including those for deportation, according to a new report.

The hackers targeted GlobalX Air, the charter company that facilitated the deportation of hundreds of Venezuelans to El Salvador, and shared the data with 404 Media and other journalists. The information revealed who exactly has been deported on GlobalX flights, when and to where.

"Anonymous has decided to enforce the Judge's order since you and your sycophant staff ignore lawful orders that go against your fascist plans,” a defacement message posted to GlobalX’s website said.
    ..........................
For instance, the hackers managed to acquire what seems to be detailed flight information about GlobalX flights 6143, 6145, and 6122 that departed from Harlingen, Texas's Valley International Airport on March 15. These flights are at the heart of a class-action lawsuit filed by five Venezuelan men using pseudonyms against the Trump administration.

and another judge says the AEA is not applicable

    duh...

'If that is not irreparable harm, what is?': Irate judge finds Trump's invocation of Alien Enemies Act 'unlawful' and blasts admin for sending immigrants to 'notoriously evil jail'

A New York judge on Tuesday became the second to find President Donald Trump‘s invocation and use of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) “unlawful” and barred the government from deporting anyone in his district under the auspices of the obscure wartime law. In a 22-page opinion by U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein, a Bill Clinton appointee, the court begins with an appeal to the nation’s founding principles — by juxtaposing the rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” with the behavior of the Trump administration.
    .............................................
The judge added that removals of the sort carried out by the Trump administration do not align with the due process rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution — or the internal procedures in the AEA itself. In fact, the court says the AEA was improperly invoked in the first place.

“[T]he Presidential Proclamation, in mandating removal without due process, contradicts the AEA,” Hellerstein writes. “ince [the government has] not demonstrated the existence of a ‘war,’ ‘invasion’ or ‘predatory incursion,’ the AEA was not validly invoked by the Presidential Proclamation.”

Trump administration invokes state secrets privilege amid judge’s Abrego Garcia inquiry

The Trump administration has invoked the state secrets privilege in response to a federal judge’s demand for details about the improper deportation of Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis revealed the development in an order Wednesday, asking for a detailed legal briefing on the decision and how it might affect her intensive inquiry into the Trump administration’s handling of Abrego Garcia’s case.

It’s the second time in recent weeks that the Trump administration has invoked the state secrets privilege in order to frustrate judges’ demand for information about potential violations of court orders related to summary deportations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi endorsed the invocation of the state secrets privilege in March after U.S. District Judge James Boasberg demanded information about the timing of flights to El Salvador carrying migrants deported under a rarely used presidential war power.

Judge demands Trump officials detail legal grounds for deporting Palestinian activist

(Reuters) - A federal judge instructed the Trump administration on Wednesday to detail the legal precedent for its plan to deport Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist whose presence in the country the government alleges could harm U.S. foreign policy interests.

District Court Judge Michael Farbiarz in Newark, New Jersey, ordered the administration to supply a catalog of every case in which U.S. officials have employed the law being used against Khalil, a Columbia University graduate student.

The judge asked to know specifics behind U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's determination of the risks posed by Khalil's presence in the U.S. He gave the government until 9:30 a.m. ET (1330 GMT) on Thursday to respond.

The court rules that the Tufts student who was detained for 6 weeks for nothing more than writing an Op-Ed opposing Israel's policies and opposing Tufts' response is ordered released. The administration claimed that she was supporting Hamas, but the administration was unable to provide literally any evidence to support this claim in a court. Glad that we sent masked agents to arrest her and paid to detain her for 6 weeks for literally nothing other than harassing somebody for having said something in a perfectly legal manner that disagreed with the position of the US government.

And that's exactly why many of us are concerned about the government taking extreme action without having to prove their claims in any way.

Georgetown researcher released from ICE custody after judge’s order

Badar Khan Suri, the Georgetown University researcher who has been held in an immigration detention center in Texas since March, was released from custody Wednesday, hours after a federal judge ruled that Trump administration officials probably violated his rights in their ongoing attempt to deport him.

Suri, a postdoctoral fellow who lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and three children, says he is being wrongfully targeted by immigration authorities because of his family’s support for the Palestinian people in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. U.S. officials have invoked a rarely used statute as they seek to deport Suri to his native India, calling him a threat to foreign-policy interests.

At a hearing in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles ordered Suri released from immigration custody. He was released hours later, his attorneys said. The ruling came days after Giles asserted jurisdiction over the case in Virginia, denying a request from the Justice Department to transfer proceedings to a federal court in Texas.

As a condition of Suri’s release, Giles ordered that Suri reside in Virginia and attend hearings in her courtroom.

Judge rules Trump's use of Alien Enemies Act for deportations is lawful

A federal judge in Pennsylvania ruled Tuesday that President Donald Trump's use of a wartime authority to deport Venezuelan gang members is lawful, but accused the administration of moving too quickly.

U.S. District Judge Stephanie Haines, a Trump appointee, upheld the president's use of the Alien Enemies Act after he proclaimed in March that the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua was mounting a violent "incursion" into the United States. Haines' ruling comes after two other judges recently barred Trump from using the AEA for deportations.

do you think a gang that the US intelligence committee confirms is not related to the Venezuelan gubmnt constitutes an invasion under the AEA? personal opinion. do you think the US is being invaded? time for martial law? suspension of habeus?

She should be compensated for that illegal detention. Unfortunately the feds are probably harder (impossible?) to sue vs. when a city or county screws up.

Why is Trump so weak and ineffective?

If, pursuant to his lawful implementation of this wartime law from the late 1700's, he can simply choose to declare a gang to be "terrorist", and he can also simply choose to declare who is a member of this gang, absent any type of hearing or trial .......

........then why is he only doing so with this one particular gang? This is a terrible abomination - a dereliction of duty!!

If the Trump cared about America, he'd be kicking out thousands and thousands of terrorists. Really, hundreds of thousands, if not more. This guy is soft. I can't wait until President AOC gets serious about using this law to kick out the bad Trumpers guys!!

Nashville MAGA supporter feels the impact

Pro-Trump Nashville Restauranteur Forced to Shutter Kitchens in Fear of ICE Raids

Steve Smith, a prominent Trump donor and conservative Nashville bar owner, was forced to close kitchens at three of his high-volume Broadway properties over the weekend, as management told workers afraid of being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to go home.

According to one employee, staff were told to go home mid-shift Saturday night after ICE activity surged in the area. The decision impacted staff at The Diner, Honky Tonk Central, and Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk.

“We were already understaffed because of the ICE raids throughout the weekend,” one worker told the Nashville Scene. “Then, around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, our manager came back and told anyone without legal status to go home. Events at the Ryman, Ascend, the Savannah Bananas’ baseball game all let out, and it was crazy busy. But there was no one in the kitchen to cook the food.”

Sources say staffing shortages persisted through Sunday as employees stayed home, afraid of arrest.
