The Republican candidate does not want the appeal to cover Republican counties.

There were two recounts. The Democratic candidate won in both of those recounts. The Republican candidate is now trying to do something that will win him the election and, possibly, set a precedent on a nationwide basis.

if they challenge voter registration, the challenge should be statewide

has anyone requested that all voters under that definition be challenged?

‘I’m Troubled’: State Supreme Court Delivers Blow to Recount Effort

The North Carolina Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a lower court ruling requiring a recount of over 65,000 votes in the 2024 state Supreme Court race. This allows the court to review an appeal from the Democratic candidate. NBC reported that a machine recount as well as a partial hand recount revealed Riggs leading Griffin by more than 700 votes.

the winner is not gonna ask for any sort of recount. There have already been two, and she has been declared the winner. The loser is a cheat. If he wasn’t, he would ask for a statewide recount, which should be rejected by a reasonable court because there already have been 2?recounte and now the loser is trying to change the rules. It is conceivable, that the court could respond to the current lawsuit by the loser by agreeing to a statewide recount. However, again, that seems inappropriate, considering the 2 recounts that have already occurred and that we’re now heading towards six months or so after the election.

    update

looks like it is down to 2k - 7k voters tbd

North Carolina Republicans might just get away with stealing an election | Opinion

The question is what will happen to more than 65,000 votes that Griffin is challenging.

On April 11, the state Supreme Court ruled that 60,000 of those votes couldn't be thrown out – a win for voting rights and for Riggs. On the other hand, anywhere from 2,000 to 7,000 overseas and military voters could have their votes thrown out if voters don't cure their ballots within 30 days.

Federal judge says results of North Carolina court race with Democrat ahead must be certified

Disputed ballots in the still unresolved 2024 race for a North Carolina Supreme Court seat must remain in the final count, a federal judge ruled late Monday, a decision that if upheld would result in an electoral victory for Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs.

U.S. District Judge Richard Myers agreed with Riggs and others who argued it would be a violation of the U.S. Constitution to carry out recent decisions by state appeals courts that directed the removal of potentially thousands of voter ballots deemed ineligible. Myers wrote that votes couldn't be removed six months after Election Day without damaging due process and equal protection rights of the affected residents.

Myers also ordered the State Board of Elections to certify results that after two recounts showed Riggs the winner — by just 734 votes — over Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin. But the judge delayed his decisions for seven days in case Griffin wants to appeal the ruling to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Good. Judge Myers is a Trump appointee. Nice to have a judge who put principles and the Constitution over party allegiance. Absolutely shameful behavior from the Republicans on the NC Court of Appeals and NC Supreme Court to take it this far. And Griffin is a pathetic man for pulling this stunt.

NC pubs as slimy as they come..trying to go full maga...took power away from guvnr before new dem guvnr took over and then fired respected elections board head

The election director in North Carolina, a key swing state, is ousted after a Republican power play

The North Carolina elections board ousted its widely respected executive director Wednesday in a partisan move that will put Republicans in control of election operations in the political swing state, which includes the certification of results.

The removal of Karen Brinson Bell, who had held the job for nearly six years during a time when the board had Democratic majorities, came after Republicans took away the authority to appoint election board members from the Democratic governor late last year, overriding a veto while they still held a supermajority in the legislature. Republicans handed that power to the elected state auditor, a Republican.

Meeting for the first time with its new GOP majority, the North Carolina State Board of Elections agreed in a party-line vote to replace Brinson Bell with Sam Hayes, the top lawyer for the Republican House speaker. The board declined to consider her request to speak at the end of the meeting, adjourning instead.

Precisely. Republicans are showing who they are.

If this wasn't who they are, well they wouldn't do things like this.

The truly strange thing about this is how many MAGA MAGA and Republican voters are tolerant of things like this. And a sitting POTUS trying to overturn an election. Rationally, we should all expect they'd have enough integrity to speak up against things like this. But we're in the Trump Era.

    finally conceded

This North Carolina election is finally over. A Republican can concede after all. | Opinion

On May 7, Griffin conceded to Riggs, ending the six-month fight over the empty seat.

Although Riggs only won by 734 votes, multiple recounts proved that she was the winner of the race. It was only after Griffin lost that he contested tens of thousands of ballots, alleging that these voters had failed to fill out their paperwork correctly or had never even lived in the state.

It should have never gone this far. It was bad enough that he tried to change the rules AFTER people voted and the election results came in. But he didn't even ask for his new rules to be applied evenly. He only asked for them to throw out votes in counties his opponent won. In the counties he won, he was fine with the old rules. Changing the rules after the election is a constitutional violation. Doing it only in some counties to try and only disenfranchise voters who supported your opponent is beyond a constitutional violation; it's an attack on democracy itself. It is galling that Republicans on the North Carolina appellate courts helped him to do it, despite the obvious unconstitutionality of their actions. They have no business calling themselves "judges."

Griffin is not only unfit to be a judge, but he should be disbarred for the crap that he tried to pull.
