Meanwhile, for those keep track at home, this is the 3rd $60 Million F/A-18 Super Hornet lost by the Truman in this deployment. In December, the USS Gettysburg mistakenly shot down an F/A-18 flying a combat mission off of the Truman. This is also the same USS Truman that collided with a merchant vessel in February.

Maybe it is time we order the Truman home and hope to heavens they do not crash it into anything else and no more jets fall over board on the trip home.

Finally, just hours after that compulsive liar Trump makes up a non-existent cease fire agreement with the Houthis, they fired on the Truman (again).

Maybe, but Trump had not even been sworn in when the USS Gettysburg shot down our own fighter, nor when the Truman collided with the Egyptian ship. I can name hundreds of things, dating back more than 30 years that I absolutely detest or blame Donald Trump for, but not sure this is one of them.

Interesting. I am guessing the ship will (if tactically possible) enter into a safety stand down to see if these events are related. Even though they appear not to be, current leadership on the carrier may be setting a culture that is contributing. Pure speculation on my part, just what comes to mind from experience.

I've had the pleasure of experiencing a cat shot and landing onboard the Stennis (as a passenger). Basically the landing is a controlled crash.

Wait, the Navy shot down their own plane? That is terrible and inexcusable.

The skipper may be fortunate to pilot a tugboat.

Were they transgender pilots? If so, Trump and the SCOTUS has us covered.

Wouldn’t be the first time a cable in the breaks resulting in a lost plane. This one was from 2023. Notice at the end the guy who played jump rope with the stakes being his legs.

One of four were under Biden, but I agree with your underlying point. That being said, there’s at least a colorable argument Hegseth is responsible here since he twice extended the Truman’s deployment which can lead to fatigue. I’m not sure that’s really the cause though. The first was during a live fire military action. It’s not a controlled environment in that case. Perhaps some safety measures were missed. The second sounds like an arresting cable that snapped. Perhaps they were not properly inspecting it or it just simply had a latent weak spot.

I know. But crazy things happen all the time. My sister in law is a SeaHawk pilot for the Navy. You would be amazed at the stuff that happens. It was several of her old crew that went down off the coast of San Diego a few years back. She was also on the Roosevelt when it got stuck in the Philippines during Covid. She has seen all sorts of craziness and she is just one person.

The Houthis per se aren't really who we're targeting in Yemen. We sre attacking Yemenis. Why?

War is too important to leave to the generals as has been said. The US should stop what it is doing in the Red Sea and think things through with an overall strategy in mind.

Yemen is much more advanced technologically than most people think. Let's not put US ships and people at risk.

Saudi Arabia wants to be the #1 *Islamic power on the Red Sea. The Saudis think of their legitimacy as being derived from their control of Islam's 2 holiest cities. The Prophet Muhammad instructed that the Hashemites in Jordan and Yemen (the Houthis) should be the guardians of the 2 holy cities. Contrary to popular belief, the Houthis are fairly independent and not under strict Iranian control.

Why should the US get involved in this? Our interest is in safe shipping in the Red Sea. Dollars from the Israeli and Saudi lobbies should not control or instruct our military actions

Plus Trump wants to rename the Red Sea. He has already renamed the Gulf of Mexico, and now he wants to change the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf. Obviously he wants to go down in history as (among other things) a great geographer and map maker. Just what we need in the White House.

Persian Gulf works for me. Give the clerics and exit plan and Iran could become our friend again.

The commanding officer of the Truman was replaced following the F/A-18 shoot down and the collision with the Egyptian ship. The current Captain has only been in command since the end of February and beyond what was in the article I know nothing of the Captain's qualifications to command a carrier. However, from what little I know, they do not generally install buffoons as skippers of our nuclear powered carriers.
