By: Eric Fawcett -- April 26, 2025 If there is a top player in the portal that the Florida Gators think could help them in the 2025-26 season they’re going to get involved and that’s just the case with their most recent and intriguing target–Arkansas’ Boogie Fland. Transfer Portal Target: Arkansas’ Boogie Fland | GatorCountry.com
Not sure he really "wants to be a Gator." With 3 years of eligibility left seems like he'll only play one more year in college.
I’d prefer he not play for us; I’m sure he wants $$$$$, which may explain why he’s still available. He’s like a mercenary, until he gets a better deal.
As more confirmed targets pop up, Im not seeing any forwards that were going after. That tends to indicate that Golden probably thinks Condon and Chin are coming back
Don't forget Haugh. When the SEC slate gets underway I see Tommy at the 4 more than the 3, but we'll see how our guards are working out.
I think it would depend on our guard disposition (Edit: after portal dust settles IE if we get Henshall, I can almost guarantee he starts at the 3 day 1 and if he doesn't its because he's starting at the 2) and how Ingram and AJ Brown develop (6' 6" and 6' 5" IIRC respectively) A big reason why Tommy was 6th man of the country rather than our starter at 3 is because Richard flourished so nicely and at 6' 5" was basically a small forward anyway - even a power forward at a mid-major. My current thinking is he'll either encore his role as the 6th man and primary backup at the 3/4 and ability to slide to the 2 or even the 5 against a smaller opponent, or he'll start at the 3 because things don't go as well as ideally they could with our taller guards.
In a recent interview, TG said Haugh would start at the three. I'm sure he'll move around but it looks like the Gators are going to go with three bigs this next season.
It all sounds like a "long game" in play here. The short game is what his agent wants. If someone (Kansas?) yips and goes for it then he will be the next in line of over-priced mercenaries bought by the Kansas "faithful". Methinks he is either going to go pro because he is done being a child or he will be available to be the next Clayton. But only when he is prepared to be a team player and not a diva. Todd is a hot property. I seriously doubt he is going to change his momentum.
I would typically weigh in here with barbs aimed at the Kansas faithful and their willingness to buy their way to the very top. But then I reflect upon my drive through the state of Kansas a year or two ago, and remember how bleak and depressing it is, and I say, "Okay, let those miserable souls buy basketball happiness... there's nothing else to live for there."
"That's right Toto... we are not in Kansas anymore. And, quite frankly, I don't think we wanna go back!"
But they have wind, for power. It blew so hard the last time I drove through there that I tried to get out at some obscure fast food restaurant to have a bathroom break, I couldn’t hardly open the door the wind was blowing so hard. They have gates on the on ramps so at high wind times they can keep people off the roads. I high tailed it to Kansas City two hours away (civilization) before they closed the gates. Not much in the way of hotels/motels.
Boogie Fland is from NYC. If he signs with Kansas he's going to get there and look around and think, "What the hell have I done?"
Well, if he is feeling out-of-sorts, he can always take a quick trip to Manhattan. That should take care of things. Google maps says it is only 84 miles, give or take, down I-70 from campus. He can enjoy the nightlife...up until 8pm.
