No sympathy for the German family. Fifteen years was plenty of time to legally establish residency and citizenship. And there were plenty of countries between here and Germany they could have gone to if the matter actually was about asylum and persecution. And that’s the same thing I say about anyone fraudulently claiming asylum: 1. The definition of persecution is not “My country sucks worse than yours.” If it was, almost the entire world population could claim asylum. 2. If you actually are fleeing persecution, you have a duty to stay in the first safe country that will take you. You don’t get the U.S. just because you think it’s better than the four other countries you went through or over.
