I will admit that there are many times when a gay love interest seems forced in the story line to achieve an intended viewpoint but this one felt more natural. When you layer in the fact that it's a "zombie apocalypse" and the fact that the story takes place over 20 years or so, the fact that they are gay has less of an impact. In that world there are bigger fish to fry and survival is at the top.
Political is probably a little strong. I don't think they were arguing over George W. Bush or anything (well, except for the lines printed above about the government being Nazis). But I think the basis of a lot of political differences is how somebody views people in the abstract. Are they primarily threats or opportunities? Bill comes from the threat side that motivates a lot of conservative politics. "Those people are coming to take your stuff and do harm." So load up on guns, get behind a wall, and vote for people that will protect you from those others, whether they be immigrants, "thugs from the cities," the lazy moochers, etc., with all of the associated racial elements of those concepts. He reflexively doesn't trust people, to the point that he just sits at meals with new people pointing a gun at them. Frank comes from the opportunity side. People enrich your life and are not to be reflexively feared. The guy was traveling from Baltimore to Boston without a gun in a world in which the vast majority of people are actually a fungus that wants to infect and eventually kill you. He brings in Tess and Joel to trade and discuss the world. He was comfortable enough with a guy he just met who was pointing a gun at him minutes before to kiss him.
I enjoyed the first episode. By episode two, I was wondering if it was just going to turn into predictable zombie stuff. The third episode was really great. Terrific acting and writing IMO.
I think enjoyed the flash backs more than the current time line. The lead in to the second episode with the Indonesian professor was really good. And of course seeing Ron Swanson loot the town using a speed boat as a trailer was really cool.
But of course right-wingers are upset about the homosexuality So are admitting that you and other leftist get excited about homosexuality
See right there is a prime example of the far right’s inability to use logic in any type of discussion. The default is to just make wild ass assumptions. As a wok(ish) liberal I don’t care about someone’s sexual orientation. I would have enjoyed it just as much if was good acting from a heterosexual couple but in your fever dream I’m all hot and bothered to see a gay relationship.
I liked the dynamic of Bill apologizing to Frank for getting old so much faster when Frank was so much more energetic and still optimistic about the future only to have Frank be almost an invalid and relying on Bill for basics later. A very subtle nod to life itself relentlessly moving on as it will.
