They don’t want to know what they have done…

Athletics does more than in the past. But they are trying to cover this up if they can…

Why some here don’t even want to ask the question like you did!

Some on here need to read this and admit they were wrong. Unfortunately too much pride on this site.

It's Time for the Scientific Community to Admit We Were Wrong About COVID

"I can see now that the scientific community from the CDC to the WHO to the FDA and their representatives, repeatedly overstated the evidence and misled the public about its own views and policies, including on natural vs. artificial immunity, school closures and disease transmission, aerosol spread, mask mandates, and vaccine effectiveness and safety, especially among the young. All of these were scientific mistakes at the time, not in hindsight. Amazingly, some of these obfuscations continue to the present day."

Did you read the article. He states that these decisions themselves weren't wrong based on the evidence we had. The issue was how these policies were dictated to the populace, and that we should have included the contrarians in the conversation. For example, the link to "school closures" in the article links not to an article that says it was wrong, but the article from experts saying we should close because of public health. And the link to NI vs vaccine immunity has this headline, "
Having SARS-CoV-2 once confers much greater immunity than a vaccine—but vaccination remains vital"

The problem with including the contrarians in the conversation during a global pandemic dealing with a novel virus that quickly rose to be the #3 cause of death world-wide is there isn't a lot of time to debate. Lives are literally at stake. The article to me is more about the sad death of expertise and how in a time of crisis, instead of listening to the experts with years of experience, the contrarians vilified those experts. The result? We were way too high on this list.

The author does have a point. We do need to figure out how to communicate public health better. But it's never going to be easy. Especially when a significant enough portion of the population refuses to listen to anything they don't want to believe. Regardless of the expertise of the person stating it.

Oh, I know. The best part is they know they are wrong but are too stubborn to admit it on here. Comedy gold!

What's so funny about making decisions based on data? Like the effectiveness of school closures on the spread of COVID. And when the data has proven wrong, like on NI immunity, the scientific community does change their tune. Remember, the original data on NI came from Manaus, Brazil, but that study proved to be significantly flawed. Still, every study showed that hybrid immunity (NI plus vaccine) to be the most effective, and that vaxxed is better than unvaxxed, meaning it was always better to get vaccinated.

The contrarians, on the other hand? Still beating the same drums over and over again, even when the data shows how wrong they are. Just read here about athletes. The data shows the number of cardiac incidents today isn't any different than pre-pandemic. Yet, the belief that the vaccine is causing a huge number of athletes to "die suddenly" is still wide spread.

I don't bother responding to some posters on this site. They are too obtuse to have a rational conversation with.

Yeah, lets listen to the CDC who makes up crap and doesn't actually look at science. Crazy, right? The whole "masks work" garbage was just that, garbage. This mask efficacy study is based on 78 randomized control trials involving over 600,000 participants.

And here are experts that think the Great Barrington Declaration is not a good thing to follow. From Dr. Head:

"Those behind the Barrington Declaration are advocates of herd immunity within a population. They state that “Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal”, with the idea being that somehow the vulnerable of society will be protected from ensuing transmission of a dangerous virus. It is a very bad idea. We saw that even with intensive lockdowns in place, there was a huge excess death toll, with the elderly bearing the brunt of that, and 20-30% of the UK population would be classed as vulnerable to a severe COVID-19 infection. Around 8% of the UK population has some level of immunity to this novel coronavirus, and that immunity will likely wane over time and be insufficient to prevent a second infection. A strategy for herd immunity would also promote further inequalities across society, for example across the Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
It should also be noted that the UK's first COVID strategy was based on the Barrington Declaration of keeping things open, attempting to protect the most vulnerable, all while getting to herd immunity as fast as possible. This lasted about 6 weeks before the country reversed course when death tolls were out of control. It's very difficult, if not impossible to protect the most vulnerable while keeping most of a country open, especially at a time where there is no vaccine and no effective treatments, which was true at the beginning of the pandemic. Today, different story. We have vaccines and more effective treatments.
