I hate that this is how people have to get "rights". Would be nice if legislators had guts AND cared about freedom.

The beer lobby is strong. So is big pharma.

Lawyers, cops, judges, and the "correction industry" don't like it much either.

Crazy how we all seem to agree it should be legalized regardless of our politics but it’s not. I just don’t get it.

    Look no further than Florida.

The medicinal marijuana amendment was approved by 71% of the voters in 2016. Despite that overwhelming support of the people, the Florida legislature enacted a statute in 2017 excluding marijuana in smoking form from the definition of medical use. Medical use proponents had to file suit, which they won in the lower court. The state, of course, appealed and got an automatic stay pending appeal. That same lower court vacated the automatic stay finding the state had no chance of prevailing in their appeal and the state also appealed that to the Ist DCA. In July of 2018, the state was successful in getting the stay reinstated by the 1st DCA. That stay operated to prevent dispensing medical marijuana in plant form. It was not until January of 2019 that DeSantis threw in the towel and urged the legislature to pass enabling statutes that actually reflected the will of the people. For over two years the state fought a measure approved by 71% of the people.

The Dems need to ensure that marijuana and abortion rights initiatives are on the ballots for the 2024 general of every state that doesn't already have them. We've already seen how the abortion rights provisions energize the base and is a good way to see to it Trump or DeSantis doesn't get to sniff the White House.
