Biden signed a bill in August allowing members of the military to file civil suits over the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune. The commercials are amazing constant.

Lawyers are seeking clients for Camp Lejeune water claims, but veterans may be better off waiting

Its a big story in these parts. My wifes grandfather was a civilian contractor over base housing back in the day. He has been flooded with contacts.

Side note. Its a french word pronounced LeJerne. But you will rarely hear it called that, though one local news anchor does get it right.

Did they use Roundup at Camp Lejeune?
Sounds to me like lawyers are the big winners in both cases.

If I had a dollar for every add I have seen on TV about this the last month I could retire.

Fayetteville is one of the worst cities in America. There is an off base drug/crime culture thats pretty strong there.

People call it Fayettnam for a reason. Its dirty, crime riddled, and dangerous.

It has one of the highest crime rates in the country for a city its size. Jacksonville NC (LeJeune) isnt much better. The military does very little to help. Dropping mostly young dudes in huge numbers in strip club wastelands ... What could go wrong.

Problems aren't limited to bases in NC.

I grew up near Ft Benning Ga. This was/is an apt description of that area just outside of main gate. Oh, the fun I had on Victory Drive as an impressionable youth.

I get spam emails daily. No reason for the algorithm that I know of to think I would be a valid claimant

And if the sick people had that same dollar for every ad we might start to make them whole.

Honestly, contaminated water in NC, burn pits in Iraq, no water in Jackson MI, poison water in Flint MI.

Sure seems for the greatest country in the world our elected officials and those charged to protect us eff up a lot of things that hurt so many of us.

I agree. What is sad… and I want to be clear this goes for ALL POLITICIANS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE..
Is that in most cases elected officials are more concerned with THEIR bottom dollar than the welfare of their constituents. Same with the military… more concerned with the bottom dollar than the soldiers.
Sadly none of them work for the people or the country anymore.. no matter how we romanticize it… they all work for themselves and we are left HOPING it works out for us in the long run.

As I’ve said for years, it’s in their best interests to keep us divided, and they do a great job of it.

You could have underlined your capitalized phrase and there still would not be enough emphasis

It was the case outside every base I was on back in the 60's. Yet, if you went into town or "on the economy", you typically weren't treated very well. Parents certainly didn't want you anywhere near their daughters, understandably in hindsight. (This didn't apply in countries where they wanted Americans to marry their daughters.)

My cousin and his wife were both marines at camp Lejeune during this "bad water" period. Their daughter was born with SEVERE mental defects. As in institutional care was the only solution. They were both convinced that the medical care, advice and drugs provided by the medical staff were implicitly responsible for her condition, and now this.... :(

Interesting. I'm not clear when we're supposed to basically stick with foreign pronunciations of American places (obviously our accents won't be perfect) and when we're not. "Nevada" is a Spanish word, but it seems they insist on pronouncing it their own way. "Los Angeles" gets pronounced various ways. Even within cities, some Spanish-named streets are pronounced consistent with the Spanish name and some are not. But a street like "Texar" does make it easier to identify the new-comers!

Nobody wants to spend what it costs for water, sewer, drainage, garbage services. No political advantage to raising rates to adequately fund the operations of these systems. They are even less funded than roadways. Talk to somebody about funding bond issues to build an incenerator to eliminate dumps or rehabbing 50 year old treatment plants and their eyes glaze over.

You did not even touch on the nuclear, and toxic chemical waste from our massive nuclear weapons programs, power development. Clean energy, my sweet aunt.

I strongly recommend not ever, ever drinking anything from, touching or othewise even getting near the Tennessee River. Yes, the same one that runs through Knoxville.
