Since they've been on campus for 3 years, let's review them to see what we've gotten outta them: Gervon Dexter - starter Tre'Vez Johnson - starter Anthony Richardson - starter Princely Umanmielen - starter Xzavier Henderson - starter Rashad Torrence - starter Jeremy Crawshaw - starter Jalen Lee - starter/rotational player Antwaun Powell - rotational player on D Richard Leonard - rotational player Josh Braun - back up OL Jaquavion Fraziars - non contributor on O Ethan Pouncey - non contributor on D Derek Wingo - non contributor on D Kamar Wilcoxson - non contributor on D Johnathan Odom - non contributor on O Jahari Rogers - transfer Issiah Walker - transfer Mordecai McDaniel - transfer Lamar Goods - transfer Fenley Graham - transfer Gerald Mincey - transfer Johnnie Brown - non qualifier Portal guys: Stewart Reese - graduated, former starter Justin Shorter - starter Brenton Cox - starter Lorenzo Lingard - non contributor Zack Sessa - non contributor (as expected) Noah Keeter - non contributor (as expected) Jordan Pouncey - non contributor (as expected) Khamal Ellison - non contributor (as expected)
Birdseye observation: We have 10 starters from this class but 7 transfers. so far we've missed badly offensively with this class The non contributors aren't all that surprising OVERALL The transfers aren't surprising either
And only 2 with some All-Conference potential (Dexter and AR)? Maybe Shorter and Cox get "Honorable Mention" love this season...Either way, we need more "top end" talent in every class....but we know that already. I don't mind the 7 transfers, actually (considering all factors).
Didn’t Wilcoxson tear his acl? While odds of recovery much higher these days …that injury can ruin careers so I am more understanding of his struggles.
Spooky as sh*t, especially on the offensive side. I'm positive the previous staff used this stop as a retirement plan. Absolutely speechless
Mincey was one I was disappointed about transferring because of lack of depth but from the Tenn game my eyes saw Mincey taking false start and getting thrown around by Boone some altho holding up OK, while Barber looked really good. Mincey wasn't beating out Barber. He made the right choice.
Yea I thought Mincey could push for a starting job but we've rebounded in a big way on the OL. Tarquin's injury has been a blessing because Barber, imo, has shown to be better than him and he's 2 years younger too. IDK how that situation plays out when he returns from injury
I would keep Barber starting and rotate in Tarquin at LT and RT. To have a pass protector who can maul is ideal. How do you sit that?
I would hope that they ride the hot hand on the OL. When watching the OL, i'll admit, Kingsley HAS to pick it up. He's been up and down and not as solid as he was a year ago.
Kind of the same story at C as previous years. Have a smart aggressive guy at C who is smaller than the OG. Has a hard time holding up against the gigantic NT in the SEC.
I was actually thinking maybe move one of them to guard and put Ethan White at C. He used to be the best option there before he got hurt. Of course that sounds great from us fans, but we don't know how good they'd be in those different positions and if it would mess up the OL chemistry. In any case, it's good to finally have enough quality guys to have this conversation!
Exactly!!! In the wings we have Waites, Barber, Braun, and Leonard would can all play quality snaps in a pinch. So nice to be 9 deep again
True. It sounds great until the first errant shotgun snap at a critical time. But if Braun had it all together and White healthy, I would like to see Braun, White, and Torrence in the middle just for the size.
As much as we complained about Hev, we are much better than when he got here and I think whatever group we had at the time did a fairly good job as far as cohesion. We couldn’t run the ball but tge boys gave Trask a pretty clean pocket to work with. These kids he left behind aren’t half bad..
