It's nothing new here in the United States, of course. Despite being a nation of immigrants, the periodic targeting of this group or that group of immigrants has been a fixture.
But it seems like it's gotten worse the past decade or so. Maybe that's just my imagination. Much of it seems to have been led by the good folks at Fox. Tucker has been the leader lately.

Beyond Martha's Vineyard, I thought the broader issue was worth a thread.

Tucker Carlson says immigrants and refugees are the reason “your daughter is afraid to go outside, your schools become unusable, the hospitals fall apart”

Seems to fire intense emotions beyond all reason. Could say so much, but it just strikes something very deep

Demonization of immigrants or demonization of folks pressing for some sort of immigration policy ?

What a silly post. It’s obvious you are conflating two separate issues in order to avoid addressing the issue raised in the thread.

In any event, everyone wants immigration reform. There are differences of opinion as to what and how, and I don’t see either side “demonizing” the other.

Demonizing others has always been effective, but we generally have a little more shame about doing so. We know it is wrong, but some people are willing to do it if they feel like they can get away with it, and right now we are in a downswing of public shame. Some of those who are demonizing others actually wear the shame as a badge of honor. Hopefully we will swing back a little over the next few years.

It is important for good people to speak out against things that are wrong.

"Folks pressing for some sort of immigration policy" --->> their policy is basically no immigration (unless you are some kind of highly skilled european)

You may want to click on the link below for a little context:

There are many who do not but some who do. Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, for example, have been critical of too much legal immigration and the demographic changes that come with that - in addition to criticizing illegal immigration.

The level of legal immigration is a perfectly acceptable topic to discuss. The
Numbers are not just pulled out of the air, they come via discussion and negotiation.
And American companies haven’t helped themselves or the debate with things like Disney laying off entire groups of FTEs for H1B holders because they are cheaper for instance. That isn’t demonization, few if anyone would think that should happen. And during times of recession, it’s a legit discussion too if there is job competition.
But again, the basic point of my post was that the discussion is very different around illegal immigrants, as it should be. The two things aren’t equal, and the distinction wasn’t made in the OP.

Read Carlson's quote and tell me if you see him limiting his outrage to illegal immigrants.

How about immigrants in the US with pending claims of asylum? As a point of information they do have temporary legal status. Also, in addition to its campaign against undocumented immigrants it was also the policy of the administration of the former president to reduce legal immigration.

Seems to me that Tucker's campaign is the reduction of immigration including legal immigration by persons not of White European decent.

If Tucker is the standard, sure you win, I don’t count him as much more than a carnival barker though. If I were to say that you don’t see Americans demonizing Ukraine or siding with Russia, he would be the big outlier there too along with a couple of other whackos. But again, among 99 percent of the discussion, people make the distinction between illegal and legal, because they are very different use cases.

    Of course it is.

Was Trump's famous announcement speech limited to illegal immigrants? Or does the leader of the Republican Oarty not count, either?

    Or this?
