Sounds like a lot of Gator fans tbh. Zero to hero this past weekend. We have no clue what this staff is really up to behind the scenes, but every step they make seems to be the right one. I think at this point, we just need to take a breath and enjoy the ride.
The takeaway from this to me is how much influence message boards now have on perception of programs and fan bases.
Twitter even moreso. I tried to follow the recruiting on Twitter this weekend and maybe I'm just old now but my goodness some people need lives.
Lots of comments in the past here about how recruits don't read boards and what we say doesn't matter. It shouldn't but clearly sports journalists and vloggers/bloggers scour the internet for material now. I wish it wasn't this way but clearly it is now.
I certainly don't "hate" Josh, but he does come across as being more than a bit full of himself and a click bait meister for the ages. The fact that he pats himself on the back for backing off on one of the many rash conclusions he's drawn, does nothing to alter my estimation of his "work,"
I disagreed with you because of the false narrative of a "lot of gator fans" being down on recruiting. 99% are happy with CBN and are patient. Of the entire universe of gator fans, I'd be shocked if 25% follow recruiting at all/closely. I do know that a small # of trolls inhabit Twitter and 24/7 message boards. on GC? I bet it less than 15 guys who post negatively or doom and gloom. So let's not eat our own and instead focus ..real life. Gator club meetings all summer with 1000's of fans who are very optimistic about the future. The Tampa meet with CBN was high energy. I always sit in the back row to talk to 'regular' fans - and not a single person had one bad or negative thing to say. AND I AM A TALKER. I bet I've talked to 500+ fans - including the event in Lakeland as well as ATL. Also spent hours talking to fans around me during the baseball regionals. I read every thread on here as well as 'awesome recruiting' and it's usually the same 8-10 people that could be perceived as negative. That's it.
I said 'a lot' but I didn't say a majority, and ultimately that was not really the point of my post anyway. That said, I do appreciate you explaining your bacon.
Or how much a handful of pessimists override the number of optimists - just like the evening news - bad news makes headlines. Gators are no different than any other big time sports program.
I took journalism in college. I remember it being called something. That's right, we used to call that plagiarism. (Vloggers putting Informations like its their own)
You just get the feel that Webb and Stokes are doing some heavy lifting. Fun to watch commits get excited about other commits.
I know there we a few people here just three weeks ago that were so negative that I had to put fainting goats on their posts. So, three or four seemed like more but there were some others that bordered on negativity too. But alas... all is well and the fainting goats are gone... for now.
Yeah I know its probably a vocal minority at this point in BNap's tenure so I probably should have said 'some' but...... I probably had too much coffee!
I've been discouraged with recruiting at times but not in any way unhappy with Napier. I do question our linebacker coach at this time as he came with some baggage if I recall from his time at UNC. Nothing terrible just don't believe he was well liked or had good results on the field but again, I trust Napier will either get results or send him off eventually.
Pate shoots straight and tells it like he sees it. I find that he often has tremendous insight and wisdom into the world of College Football. Let's not kid ourselves - a couple of months ago, we were all concerned for recruiting. We were losing big name prospects left and right due to NIL deals.
