Doubtful. Over 3-4 years he’s played ten games with zero catches. No better than our freshmen coming in with such little experience and production.
I’d pass. Season ending injuries in 2019 and 2020. Zero career catches. Was beat out by a Muschamp special (defensive end turned tight end) for the back up role this past season. Just not a player I’d bother giving a scholarship to at this point. We are like 5 above the 85 scholarship limit as it is…needing several players to transfer before the fall. And being that we probably have needs (wr, dt) that we may be shopping for in the spring /summer via the portal, don’t think we even kick the tires with an oft injured player with zero catches since high school 3-4 years ago.
This is true but if our te’s don’t make it back, te may be our biggest priority. We at least have bodies at the other positions with some are pretty good.
Three that weren’t at spring and only zipperer to play two tightens sets? That could be really bad as they are a big part of his offense
the potential transfer would be here for spring football with UF, just like the freshmen. I would rather rely on 3 inexperienced freshmen who would start at UF in the summer for fall practice and save a scholarship for a better transfer at whatever position vs taking the inexperienced zero production off injured TE who would also join UF in the summer and for fall practice.
Would only allocate a ship to someone that can come in and start or be in the two deep rotation. Maybe a DT, a WR, or now a TE. Where ever the staff after their evaluation thinks we need more depth. OL, CB, ILB, …? Miller coming back helps ILB significantly. Hill and UGA transfer help out CB, OL is okay, but an injury away from needing bench strength. I think I would focus the search on a big DT with starting experience that can stop the run and a speedy WR. Perhaps a TE as well with injuries and Gamble/Wilcox gone from the program.
Zip, Elksnis, Odom, Wilcox, and 3 freshmen makes 7 and we could probably add the converted Zander, the converted walkon and Underwood (but don't want him hurt). However, we will have to see how Elksnis comes back from his injury and the others besides Zip at this point are "break glass in case of emergency". Despite the numbers we have a need, so it would not be a surprise to grab a portal guy who can play immediately.
I think the Texas freshman is physically ready to play in the "blocking TE" role....given our greater needs elsewhere I just can't see using a slot at TE. Heck, I saw Rocco play enough to know he could at least hold his own out there.
