Three studies show mask mandates help keep coronavirus from spreading in schools

"Mask mandates keep the coronavirus from spreading in schools, according to three studies published on Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The findings call into question continued efforts by some Republican governors to fight mask mandates in schools.

One of the three studies compared masking policies in Maricopa and Pima counties, the largest in Arizona. In both counties, some school districts imposed mask mandates while others did not. Those that did saw far lower likelihood of the coronavirus spreading among students."

Masks help keep schools open, CDC finds

Anti-maskers can crawl back under their rocks now.

That video was actually from a year ago, and as I recall the woman attacked another female officer, which is why the male came in and took her down.

I believe the encounter originated over her NOT wearing a mask though. It was from when Australia had total lockdown. So that part is correct, but obviously excludes that this girl was being belligerent.

This is absolutely true, as I've said elsewhere. This is why I don't think covid vaccine hesitancy has anything to do with philosophically being anti vax. It is about being in a specific disinformation bubble that has come to associate this vaccine as being required by the entire establishment that they distrust and hate, and was associated with and magnified in order to make Donald Trump look bad. I'm not saying all republicans think that way, but nonetheless republicans view that vaccine negatively, and often have their own specific tailor made rationalization for hesitancy, and they actually convince themselves that these are their reasons, but in reality it is part of being in the right wing disinformation bubble.

The fact that republicans were wary of this vaccine but not others to me shows it is political.

Note: republicans were somewhat agsinst HPV, but that was more of a twisted values agenda that thought that getting vaccinated against a venereal disease will cause kids to have more sex.

You guys are funny. Do you even read the “study”?

Maybe you guys missed this part. But hey, you guys keep on masking your kids, my kids haven’t worn a mask all year and that is great. Make sure you guys mask at home too, can’t be too safe.

“The findings in this report are subject to at least four limitations. First, this was an ecologic study, and causation cannot be inferred. Second, pediatric COVID-19 case counts and rates included all cases in children and adolescents aged <18 years; later analyses will focus on cases in school-age children and adolescents. Third, county-level teacher vaccination rate and school testing data were not controlled for in the analyses; later analyses will control for these covariates. Finally, because of the small sample size of counties selected for the analysis, the findings might not be generalizable.”

If only you'd acknowledge the limitations of the Danish mask study like this. You might actually have a tiny bit of credibility if you did.

One was a real study. What the CDC trotted out there was a joke. Almost as bad as the hairdresser “study” and the Kansas mask “study”.

Natural immunity emerges as potential legal challenge to federal COVID-19 vaccination mandates (msn.com)

Natural immunity emerges as potential legal challenge to federal COVID-19 vaccination mandates

The stated goal behind mandatory vaccination policies is to protect against the spread of disease, meaning that the crux of any policy is immunity. The notion that a previous COVID-19 infection provides natural immunity that can be at least as good as vaccination in some people is something a judge would likely need to consider in a challenge to a mandatory policy, especially against a government actor.

“I think that a judge might reject a rule that's been issued by a body, like the U.S. Department of Labor or by a state, that has not been sufficiently thought through as it relates to the science,” Erik Eisenmann, a labor and employment attorney with Husch Blackwell, told Yahoo Finance.

The scientific arguments are based on certain studies over the past year, including the Israel study, and studies out of Cleveland Clinic and Washington University.

A June study that tracked 52,238 Cleveland Clinic employees found that within 1,359 previously infected and unvaccinated people, none contracted a subsequent COVID-19 infection over the five-month study. The findings led authors to conclude that prior infection makes a person “unlikely to benefit from COVID-19 vaccination.” Nevertheless, Cleveland Clinic stated afterwards that it continued to recommend vaccination for people previously infected, stressing that the research was conducted in late 2020 and early 2021 before the emergence of the Delta variant.

This should be just common sense

What more does anyone need to see here, the crux of this policy is big pharma profits. Our common sense left the barn years ago.

Your base premise that masks aren't effective is simply an ignorant view. You can repeat as much as you want, but it doesn't make you correct, just annoying.

I get that you and others are in denial about the fact that masks don’t work, and I really don’t care that you are wrong. I’ll just go about pointing out the fallacy that is masks and you can continue to keep your head in the sand. Not surprising.

The results of studies are actually inconclusive. From your own link and intentionally omitted:
In August, the CDC published a study of 246 Kentucky residents, concluding that vaccination offers higher protection than a previous COVID infection. The CDC said the study went through a “rigorous multi-level clearance process” before submission, though analysis was conducted before the Delta variant became prevalent in the U.S.

The CDC says the Kentucky data indicates that vaccines offer better protection than natural immunity alone, and medical professionals widely recommend vaccination for everyone who is eligible — including those who have experienced a prior COVID-19 infection.

Masks definitely cut down on transmission of large droplets. They don’t do a great job of stopping aerosols but are better than nothing. Properly fitting N95 and North respirators are by far the best thing to use to avoid catching COVID. They definitely work. If they didn’ my colleagues and I would all have had COVID over a year ago. Very few have.
