The difference this year as opposed to other years is there is a lot more experience on this team. The issue is they haven't really played together before so they may struggle early. If they play well early, than that will be a great sign that this team will have a good year. How good, I'm not sure, but I think we will be better this year than the last few years.

The SEC is going to be way better this year than it has been in the last few years. Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and Auburn almost certainly will all be among the pre-season top-25 teams, and Mississippi State and LSU will be knocking on the door. If KJ comes back healthy, we could be a top-25 team. If not, it is going to be a struggle to finish in the top half of the league.

I can't argue with your projections. It'll take a few games before we get a handle on the new guys, though.

The pissers and moaners are the ones who care about the basketball program. Count me in.

Not really. When it is one post after another along the same lines then it is just pissing and moaning to see the words on the page. Serves no useful purpose.

That logic infers that if we’re not negative we don’t care about the basketball program? I don’t think that’s what you meant.

There are a lot of fans who are exasperated about the Gators having become a middle of the pack SEC team with not much on the horizon to improve the situation. The rest of the league seems to be improving while we remain static.

True. It’s hard for a lot of people to let go of their coach. The same thing happens with the football team. However, coaching hires are inevitably crap shoots. When they don’t work out, it becomes time to move on. That is not happening in this case, but it seems to me that it’s time to let go.

I'm sure there are but this season should tell us a lot barring any more major calamities.

The thing I am referencing though is one post after another that could basically be copied and pasted.

I haven’t paid enough attention to see who’s doing what. With me, you usually get an explanation.

Pretty sure he’s referring to me. Some may call it pissing and moaning, so be it. But I’m not pumping sunshine by pretending that White is gonna grow into a great coach. It isn’t happening, not this year, next year, or next decade. He doesn’t have it in him. Been saying this for quite a while and anyone that knows Shinola about basketball can see it as well.

    My sobering, somewhat pessimistic view:

First, it depends on what the writers/pundits think of the SEC this season. If it is considered very good then what we "accomplish" may be better than what I anticipate. But this is a double edged sword. If the league is indeed very good/deep then we may be a 6/7 type rather than a 3-4-5 kind of team. And if it is VERY good we may even be a 8/9 kind of team (I am talking about SEC ranking). But if the SEC isn't as good as advertised then I can see us getting in the 3-4-5 spot. And it will make us look better than what I expect us to be. Too many moving parts that have to learn to mesh to get us to upper-echelon in major college basketball. We aren't Kentucky, Kansas, or Duke.

So, IF the league is kind of meh then I see our usual 20 wins and a trip to the Weedwacker Bowl (yeah, this is a pejorative). But if it is decent/good then I see us struggle to get to 18 wins and we sit on the fence for the tourney. BUT if we grow a lot during it all we can make the tourney, and then we CAN get to the Sweet 16 and Mike will have the monkey off his back for a couple of years.

But my expectations are that "something" will manifest and we will be "thankful" for our Weedwacker trophy.

And then the apathy will set in in earnest. JMHO

I threw 20 wins out on the thread title. Used to be a pretty standard mark of reasonable success.

lets face it, completely different roster and a huge set of unknowns.

Will it be "par for the course" - 17 - 19 wins?
    Lightning in a bottle? 25?
    Or a dud - 15?

Until we get some practice reports from Eric F or early play it's just a big unknown.

Is KJ even practicing or playing on pick up games now? Any intelligence from those that know UF basketball coaches or players? Would be helpful to know he is playing pickup ball, even if not cleared for team drills at this point.
