I think it’s more like 20% of the population. But hopefully that number continues to decline.

I am only speaking for myself. My kids are vaxed up. I had all the normal vaccines growing up. But I have chosen to continue masking and distancing and waiting for the FDA approval.
I am not an anti-vaxer in general. I am not sure yet about when to do this one. That's all.

People will begrudgingly do it eventually because for instance, you can’t go to Europe without it this summer. Some venues are talking about requiring it, some work places might etc. people will eventually find it less burdensome to get the shot than not.

I am vaccinated but will not be getting my 15 and 16 year old the covid vaccine at this time. There is almost zero risk of them being seriously sick with covid so I will not risk the very small chance that something bad happens if they get vaccinated. It's not worth it. I will wait until it's fully FDA approved before they get the vaccine.

And it's entirely due to people getting vaccinated. More than half of the adult population of the US has now gotten at least 1 shot.

Kids are part of the population. We don't reach herd immunity until, at minimum 70% of the entire population is vaccinated. By waiting to get your kids vaccinated, you aren't posing any significant risk to them, but you are prolonging the pandemic, in my opinion. Same for those waiting on full approval.

My oldest turns 16 in June. It's going to be, "Happy birthday. Now roll up your sleeve."

Putting a vaccine in a kids arm that poses almost zero risk to is asinine when said vaccine isn’t approved by the FDA. You do you and I’ll handle my own life thank you. If and/or when it’s approved then I’ll think about getting my kids vaccinated. We have no idea what the long term outlook is from this vaccine. I hope it’s fine, but it’s not a risk I’m prepared to take at this point. We don’t need 70% vaccinated. Add in the people who have had covid(many kids included) and you don’t need 70% vaccinated.

Nope. Never heard his show. But I will not put a vaccine into my kids bodies that isn’t fda approved. You take care of your family and I’ll handle mine. Thanks.

    Joe agrees with you.
FDA approval is hard to argue with.
    And meant no disrespect.

We also don't know long term risks in kids who get COVID. And we do know kids get and spread the disease. We also know 70% is generally considered the minimum vaccination rate to start seeing herd immunity. Given even the best vaccines are only 95% effective, we need closer to 75% vaccinated to reach this number.

Do as you please. They are your kids. And yes, the risk for COVID issues, short term for them, is very low. But considering we probably have a good 20% of the population totally anti-COVID Vax, we need everyone willing and able to get the vaccine to take it as soon as possible. Otherwise, we are prolonging the time it takes to reach herd immunity, and prolonging the pandemic.

This will be a huge area of research for the next few years. All kinds of weirdness being reported by long haulers, and by people who have been generally symptomatic.

My wife, myself and all 3 of my kids have not been vaccinated and have no plans to and don't see any reason for it, but I have left that up to them. Also all 20 of my employees and their families are not having it done. Last time I checked half of UF faculty also have not had done either

Go look at the VAER’s reports on the covid vaccines. Yes, its not perfect as it’s voluntary, but there are thousands of complaints ranging from flu like symptoms to death concerning the vaccines. When my kids have as close to zero risk with covid, then I’m going to wait until it’s fda approved before giving them the shot. We have at most 9 months of data on these vaccines, and even less on kids under 16.

I had nausea for about 24 hours. My wife was very drowsy for a similar period. Sure beats hospitalization. Or worse.

If we truly want to get back to normal, we need herd immunity. Best way to do that is through the vaccine. 70% at minimum. Which given the number of breakthrough cases (fully immunized who still get sick), that equates to about 75% of the population.

Anyone over 18 can get it. If they don’t want to that’s up to them. I’m not worried. I have my shot and that’s good enough for me. Life is going back to normal whether some people want it to or not. Again, you aren’t taking into account the number of people who have had covid and are naturally immune. So your whole premise is flawed. Run the numbers with the cdc estimates of how many in the US have had covid.
