Womens beach volleyball is a cheap, easy no brainer addition where we would immediately be a contender, and we haven't done that. No chance for mens soccer
Other than current teams at Arkansas and South Carolina. The fact that nearly every Florida school has a team would make it seem a natural add by UF. But alas, as apkgator pointed out due to Title 9 UF would have to add probably two additional women's sports to counterweight the add of men's soccer. And with the financial strain induced by Covid-19 it is doubtful Stricklin is even contemplating adding a single sport any time soon. If we ever get there perhaps also look at adding a wrestling team. UF use to have a pretty good team back in the 70s.
There are a lot of kids playing in Florida and the SE. We would have first pick at those. Maybe even get an IMG kid, finally.
Yeah, I think it's odd that we haven't added this. I'm all for us adding some cheaper sports to operate to at least open the door for a potentially new men's sport. Throw women's bowling in there too.
And those costs vary by massive amounts dependent upon scholarship numbers, facilty needs, etc. For example beach volleyball would be a fraction of soccer cost
I read somewhere that the SEC would like to eventually expand to sponsor conference championships for Women's Lacrosse and Men's Soccer. It takes only 4 schools in order for the SEC to sponsor a conference championship. Kentucky and South Carolina have Men's Soccer programs. Florida and Vandy have Women's Lacrosse programs.
We only have so many fields. Intramural soccer is currently being played on the tennis courts ... Beach volleyball, yes. Men's and women's. Make it happen. Get a beer sponsor lined up, they know how to promote these things .
Heck sand cost money. How about an equestrian team? The SEC has won the last 4 Championships I think. Heck, Ocala is horse country.
