I suspect this is one of those things where some idiots talk about doing something, but not a chance they ever would have.
Authorities still have to act, tho

Really stupid people in this world...Throw the book at them.
I do understand the peoples frustration with her though. How does she lock down like that and still have a higher death rate per 100k then Florida? Florida is full of people who are predisposed to harm.

Earlier this year outside of the Governor's office in Michigan. Yes, they had to take it seriously.

Because they had the initial surge before anybody had any chance to react. Michigan is currently averaging 13 deaths a day over the last 7 days compared to Florida's 85 (and that was before accounting for today's 158 deaths). They have those restrictions in place specifically because of what happened before they could implement them.

Michigan = 72 & FL = 69. It's a negligible difference. As to the reason, my best guess is that Detroit was a major hotspot at the beginning of this virus, due to the abundance of direct flights to Asian countries (and presumably China). There is probably a Wuhan link there. The death rates were much higher at that early stage of the pandemic, as treatments were not as reliable. I don't see any of that being on the governor.

While the virus has proven it can spread in warm weather (refuting the seasonal “it will go away in the summer” theory), that doesn’t preclude that it spreads more optimally and maybe had worse outcomes in the cold weather.

And Florida will soon overtake Michigan in deaths per 100k. Current 7 day averages: Florida 85, Michigan 13.

Here's one possible way how. When Delta acquired Northwest Airlines it included all of their gate rights from southeast Asia. The airport in Detroit is a significant international hub in the US, so much so that the signs there are in 2 languages, English and Korean.

Wayne County was ground zero in the beginning, behind only King and Queens counties. Michigan needed to crack down hard and they were very successful. The governor's mistakes were all PR related. With the pandemic mostly at bay, the biggest threats to Michigan are toxic waste and armed militias.
