    Great post. I had to remind myself it isn't the Fourth of July and I can't go out and run barefoot in the grass on my coffee break after reading it.

    @74nole - FYI....my Mom was stoked to hear of your nephew and his buddy! Thanks again for their service and to you for taking good care of our warriors. :emoji_punch:

    I found one last container of my homemade chicken veggie egg noodle soup in my freezer and had half of it for dinner tonight. Will finish it off tomorrow. The end of an era. :)

    Also picked up some chuck eye steaks for tomorrow night - looking forward to our big game. I don't know if we will win but am very excited we will be fielding a defensive unit that will at least wreak havoc on the opponent! :emoji_muscle:

    Picked up a new bike today too....a cruiser! Will be perfect for cruising the beach or just jetting around the island. Only $98 at Walmart and came fully assembled. I actually took it for a spin around the bike department and it rode very smooth! Old school with a coaster brake and only 1 speed!

    Since my laptop died it is hard to keep up. It sounds like @74nole was righteous.

    Today I am smoking St Louis cut pork ribs in the Memphis style. To go with that I am roasting petite red skins in butter, garlic, and rosemary.

    As an appetizer I am making a red snapper ceviche using key limes as the acid. It is a lot of work to get enough juice out of key limes. Pretty much a Veracruz way to do it. I added thinly sliced Marzano olives to really make it Veracruz style.

    I got back into town from going to my class reunion in Albany (classes of ‘65—‘70 honors with ‘69 highlighted with 50th) Got to see some folks I haven’t seen in 49 years....Myself and Ray Knight got to catch up and spend 2 days together—a lot of great memories there (we played ball together from 9 years old through HS...

    Anyway, tonight it’s “fielder’s choice” outta the refrigerator—taco bean soup/ steak & baked potato/ grilled pork chops & vegs——everybody’s choice....

    Oh, and back porch ice cold longnecks are available...;)

    Been thinking about pickles lately.

    I've converted over from B&B to Dill for my burgers and such.

    But for eating - what do you guys like? Kosher Dill...Gerkins.....?

    For us, we like dill spears with sandwiches and dills for burgers but for stuff like chicken salad/tuna salad and deviled eggs we prefer sweet pickles.

    Tonight I’ve got chicken halves to grill on charcoal with Pat’s Ho-made on the last two turns, baked sweet potatoes, fresh yellow squash and vidalia onions, and fresh steamed green cabbage—

    Ice cold longnecks are a must—it’s post season baseball!

    Then you definitely earned that hot shower tonight! I don’t really mind painting, but the prep work and cleanup=no fun at all!
    But then, that may just be me.....

    FINALLY—We have rain falling....1 day shy of 8 weeks!

    Anyway, fresh fried channel catfish, cheese grits, homemade coleslaw, and hush puppies—and @Bazza, a bowl of bread & butter pickles will be sitting on the table as well—;)

    SO happy you are finally getting some liquid sunshine up there, @74nole !

    I saw the rain in the forecast yesterday and thought about you, just so you know.

    We all know what it's like here in Florida to go through a long dry spell when it's hotter than Hades and your plants are hanging on for dear life! I have an irrigation system with a shallow well so can run that to help out - but we irrigation contractors have a saying that a sprinkler system is only supposed to help you in between rains.

    Yesterday I worked with a person who had worked for me in the past as a helper for my business.

    Even though I've pretty much quit doing any design/install landscape work, I still have 5 small properties I maintain mostly by myself - and will enlist this person's help once in a while, which is what we did yesterday. It's a good situation for both of us so I always look forward to our days when we work together.

    Not always but more times than not, I buy lunch for us when we are done. We always start at 9:30pm and go until 2pm, unless we finish up a little early. There is a Mexican place around the corner from the two properties furthest south but in order for it to make sense to eat there, I have to schedule our work to end up there. Yesterday I did not and we ended up on the mainland so I suggested we go to Wendy's. I cannot honestly remember the last time I went to a Wendy's - I don't frequent fast food places much anyway. But they do serve a purpose sometimes. I think I saw a Wendy's commercial on TV and somehow it stuck so that's where we ate.

    I had a large Chili and Frosty and my friend had a #6 subbing a Frosty for his drink. The total came to just under $15. Food was great - I had forgotten how good their chili was and who can complain about a Frosty? But later on it struck me how much fast food has gone up in price. In the big picture, $15 is no biggie, so not complaining or anything - just making an observation. Guess I'm out of the loop on some things but I remember we used to be able to grab a couple meals for right around $6.

    And FYI.....at the Mexican place we're usually right around $25. give or take. Plus tip. ;)
