This shapes up as Nike vs. Under Armour. Don't underestimate chips relationship with Phil night. Florida has a huge event each year in that they are a nike school. UCLA is not going to just suddenly drop their 280 mill contract with UA. In this regard Phil Knight may help Florida.
Why is someone like Norvell a candidate. Looking at his resume, it is weak. I can't believe we want to name a coach with such limited experience or success. He has never played for, or been associated with successful big time college football.
We have taken enough chances with Muschamp and McElwain. Need to step up and get this Kelly guy, or poach another top coach. Need to quit with the projects and never was coaches.
Muschamp, head-coach-in-waiting at Texas, was not seen as taking a chance at the time. All he needed was a good OC. Who knew he would never find one? McElwain was taking a chance, another case of Foley going by his gut, which is why he said he hired Zook. I think or hope that Stricklin has more football acumen than Foley, which doesn't take much.
I think Muschamp was taking a chance. He had zero head coaching experience, and was learning on the job at our expense. The only way we take someone like Norvell is if we want to go cheap. Looks like he is at 1.8 mill, so you could get him for half of what top coaches would demand.

Which "top coaches" are realistic targets? Gundy has been mentioned. I don't see why he would leave where he's at for the UF pressure cooker. Malzahn? He's been on the hot seat more often than not at Auburn, and if he leaves there it will probably be to go home to Arky. Fuente? Has a good gig at VT, and I'm not sure why he would be worth paying a mint to get him to UF. I see an up-and-comer as the probable hire. I was hoping for Frost, but he's going to Nebraska.
We don't play them anymore. If we were a pac12 team , we could probably use the competition but our schedule is hard enough as it is. And yes there's still a rivalry, we just can't play everybody every year
