The Florida Gators hosted a trio of 2017 prospects from the state of Georgia for practice on Tuesday and one of those prospects was athlete Deejay Dallas (6-0, 175, Brunswick, GA Glynn Academy) who made the trek down to Gainesville for the second time in three weeks.
“It went good, they showed us a lot of love,” Dallas said. “They gave us a tour of the campus and then we met with some of the coaches and players. We got to watch practice too.”
The last time Dallas was on campus he didn’t get to watch Florida practice but he did on Tuesday and he made sure to watch the offense closely.
“Practice was fast paced out there,” Dallas said. “Everybody was making progress and doing drills. Nobody was standing around out there. The first team offense looked pretty good but the second team didn’t look as good. Overall it was good though.”
Head coach Jim McElwain offered Dallas the last time he was on campus and he made sure to let Dallas know that he was glad to see him on campus again.
“Coach McElwain said that he was happy to see me again,” Dallas said. “He and coach Drew [Hughes] said they were glad to see me back there. Coach McElwain talked to me a little more about offer today [Tuesday]. He was telling me that I can come in play early if I work hard. He said he wants me as an athlete.”
The 2017 prospect still has close to two years before he has to make a decision but he says that three schools have an early edge on the competition.
“Right now Florida is at the top with Georgia and Missouri,” Dallas said. “I’m just trying to keep all of my options open though. I’m hoping to get back down to Florida soon but it will probably be this summer because I’m going to Georgia on Saturday.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Dallas is a very good athlete and he can play offense or defense and Florida is doing a great job of making him feel wanted early on. Right now I feel as if Georgia has a leg up but two visits this spring helped Florida out a lot.
