Lane set to visit Florida for Friday Night Lights

Hundreds of prospects have invaded Bradenton, Florida this weekend for the IMG national championship.

One of those prospects is Homestead (Fla.) High receiver Ermon Lane who has been busy this summer and has more plans for the summer.

“The summer has been going good for me,” Lane said. “I went to UM (Miami) this summer and I’m going to the Opening next weekend. In July I’m going to be going to visit Florida and Florida State. I’ll be at Florida for Friday Night Lights.”

The 6-foot-2, 172-pound Lane has been to Miami several times but this time he was able to meet everyone.

“It was a good trip to Miami,” Lane said. “I got to meet with the coaches and chill with them and I got to meet some of the players and athletes out there and watch them work out.”

For Lane his next trip will be to Florida but this won’t be his first visit to Gainesville as the Gators are selling him on being a playmaker at Florida.

“I went on campus for a spring practice this spring,” Lane said. “It was a good practice and visit. The coaches have been telling me that if I compete that I could start as a true freshman at receiver. They said I could be their downhill receiver because they really don’t have a downhill receiver on the team right now.”

Some may think that Florida’s lack of passing game in their offense the last few years would be a turn off for Lane but he says that’s not the case.

“I see that Florida is building something on offense,” Lane said. “They are trying to get some good receivers in so in the future they can throw the ball a little more.  I like how the coaches at Florida have a good vibe with you and they have fun with their kids and they keep it real.”

Lane says in July he would like to narrow his list to either a top 5 or top 10.
