Smith was speechless while visiting the Florida Gators on Tuesday

Dan Mullen is trying to add more speed to the overall roster for the Florida Gators and on Tuesday he had one of the fastest guys on the board on campus for the cookout.

Receiver CJ Smith (6-3, 180, Orlando, FL. Bishop Moore Catholic) was on campus and enjoyed being back on a visit for the first time in over a year.

“It was speechless, it was amazing,” Smith said on the visit to Florida. “It was great, long waited, I couldn’t wait to get back [on campus].”

During the visit, Smith was able to sit down with receivers coach Billy Gonzales as well as just learn more about the coaching staff in general.

“I got to sit with Coach [Billy] Gonzales and look at some plays that I might be running,” he said on what all he was able to do on Saturday. “I got to dress out, that was awesome. Overall I just got to meet everybody and get a feel for what Florida has to bring.”

Gonzales explained to Smith that he would be a good fit in the Gators offense for a few different reasons and compared him to a receiver off of last year’s team.

“My speed, being able to get the ball quick and soon as the rock is in my hands I can go score no matter the play or route,” Smith said on how Gonzales sees him fitting into the offense. “More [Tre] Grimes [on who he’s being compared to].”

Smith just won the state championship in track and running track in college is something that he wants to do and he will get the chance to talk with the track side of things in a few weeks.

“They love the idea of me doing both,” he said on running track at Florida. “That’s one thing when I come back on this official, they’re going to have me meet with Coach Mouse [Holloway] to go over strength and conditioning and how I will be able to do both.”

When Smith returns in a few weeks not only will he meet with Holloway but he also wants to learn more about the coaching staff and how he will fit into things in Gainesville.

“I’ll be back on June 18th [official visit],” he said on when he will be back. “I want more of a deeper Intel since this was a little quick. Just a little bit more.”

Next up for Smith is another trip to a SEC school as the receiver has four of his five official visits planned at the moment.

“This next weekend I have Arkansas, then South Carolina, come back to Florida, Georgia and then I’m scheduling my last one in the fall,” Smith said on upcoming visits.
