Since announcing for Florida back in December, offensive lineman David Sharpe (6-8, 275, Jacksonville, FL Providence School) hasn’t wavered in his commitment to the Gators. Monday, Sharpe got a productive in-home visit with Florida head coach Will Muschamp and new offensive line coach Mike Summers.
“Coach Muschamp and Coach Summers visited me on Monday,” Sharpe said. “We had a good 30 to 40 minute conversation and we just talked about the future and about me being a Florida Gators just little stuff.”
Sharpe has not been looking elsewhere so visits with Muschamp have more to do with expectations and what Sharpe can do to prepare for arriving on campus ready to participate.
“Coach Muschamp said that’s not about recruiting anymore for me,” Sharpe said. “He said that now it’s about me getting ready because they need me. He said I need to get ready both physically and mentality so that I’ll be ready when I get there this summer.”
Summers wasn’t on staff when Sharpe committed but so far the new offensive line coach has impressed Sharpe.
“This was my second time seeing Coach Summers and I like him,” Sharpe said. “He’s a great coach and he has a lot of experience coaching the offensive line and I think he’s someone that will be help to me a lot and teach me some new things.”
Sharpe bonded with one of his teammates in San Antonio at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Sharpe was in his ear that week and has continued to recruit him for Florida.
“Coach Muschamp told me that he wants to add another lineman to the class,” Sharpe said. “I’m trying to get Jordan Sims from Alabama to visit Florida. I’m not sure if he will visit or not but he says he wants too.”
After going 4-8 last season Florida has put together an incredible class and Sharpe sees this class as being a key to the Gators future success.
“Our class is really good so far,” Sharpe said. “We have a great defensive class coming in and the offense is there too. I got to spend a lot of time with Will Grier and Khairi Clark out at the Army game. I think we will help turn the program at Florida around real fast with this class.”
